different move triggers
I just was about to post a joke move trigger
before you put your jeans on
Has anyone played around with these kind of triggers? Before you do something. After you did X?
I am not sure how to utilize these things but the design space is interesting. Maybe
after you have escaped from the collapsing temple roll+luck
On a 10+ you got out in one piece
On a 7-9 choose 1
– you had to take an opportunity that hindered one of your allies, harm your relationship by 1
– you got hurt pretty bad and loose 1 face and body each
– You pressed your luck to hard. Step it down until you make a sacrifice to her
These are perfect moves for Love Letters!
“After you left the temple…… Roll+X….”
Oh sure. My fave of my own, from a conversation on SG I can’t currently find, went like this:
You’re out of money.
For every 100sp you used to have, choose 1:
– You threw a giant party
– It was really, truly giant
– You maintained your equipment
– You put a friend up for the weekend
– etc
‘Before you do X’ sounds a lot like ‘when you attempt to x’. I usually try to avoid the later because ‘to do it, do it.’ I guess it’d be different if before you do X assumes that you automatically succeed in X thereafter.
I could see inserting a character theme to be reincorporated into a custom move, e.g.:
When you lean in to kiss the princess, choose 1:
-She is called away
-Someone engages her in conversation
-She remembers something urgent
-Ninjas
So, like, whenever you try and do a thing it supersedes your action and negates it but it’s a shtick that you buy into enacting.
Player: Well, since it is morning… Recap stretches, rolls off the bed, suits up, and starts getting ready to head out.
MC: OK… it was a crazy party last night, huh? And, before you put your pants on, roll +weird for me… and on a hit choose 1, on a 10+ choose 2; miss and I’ll hold one and give you the bad news.
# you totally went blue falcon on your wingmate, and they lost a sweet hookup. who was it? take -1ongoing with ’em, until you recompense for added emo.
# you scored some righteous lux, and one of your solids are living high today. who is it? take +1 ongoing with ’em until tomorrow morning… when they crash-out, hard.
# from the bed, Princess grabs them pants, and plays keep-away with Heroldman… who just stepped out of the washcloset naked. You still don’t have pants on; but, how much do you remember after the party?
# a barter of bling jingle and silver jangle scatters out of your clothes and gear… you are still half naked, and there is scrap everywhere; do you remember where you got all this lux?
# Princess and Heroldman leave before you, carrying some heavy pack, and right after they leave — you have one leg up ready to slip in those pants… NINJAS!!!
