  1. Hi William,

Sorry for the delay! I hope to send out an update later this week. At the moment I’m focusing on getting the current editing round back out of my hands and into those of my editor, then I’ll rework the timeline.

  2. I’ve been wondering that myself. Hamish, can you maybe make a point of posting something on the KS page once a week? I don’t mean you need to spend hours writing long status updates… it’s enough to just include a few sentences like your reply to William.

Basically, it’s just a matter of reassuring the backers that the project is still running, that you’ve not been hit by a bus or something… so far, we really don’t hear much from you, so we get nervous…

  3. Recreating my eaten reply…

I could. My hangups with that are that it seems like busywork when I don’t have anything substantive to say, I find it spammy when projects I’ve backed do that, and even posting something short does take away valuable time that I could be editing and getting the product to you (in particular because it involves getting into and out of a different mindset beyond the simple time it takes to type the words–after all, I’m a writer, and when I write something that I intend to be non-ephemeral, I spend time crafting it).

I absolutely agree that I should be posting more often though, and I’ll think about how I can balance all these concerns!

In terms of proof-of-life, my main twitter (@peregrinekiwi) usually gets at least a retweet each day! And I try to post to @thesprawl_rpg whenever something cyberpunky strikes me… often while writing.

  4. Thinking about it more though, I will try for a weekly production report from now on out. I definitely think there’s some benefit at my end, and my schedule is becoming such that there should be interesting things to say on a more regular basis.

  5. Well, if you think weekly is too spammy, every second week would do. It’s just that when you go too long between updates (e.g the last was before Christmas), people start thinking about all the failed Kickstarter projects, and worrying if this might be another one.

As to spamming, I don’t think that’s  a problem. Every single person receiving Kickstarter updates is someone who signed up to back the project, and I’d be very surprised if any of those people objected to getting a short weekly email saying “the book is still in editing”, or whatever.

  6. Even more so, I think. Facebook, it’s easy for someone to flood the main feed with noise, but with Kickstarter emails, it’s easy to filter them… to put them in their own folder where you can see that unread messages exist, but they don’t clutter the inbox. At least, that’s what I do…

  7. Worse yet are updates that only promote other Kickstart’s (QG cough, cough)

That said (or rather typed) allowing the KS to reach its scheduled release date without an update is inconsiderate.

  8. Alasdair Sinclair Well, fair enough. And it would be better to have detailed updates with snippets of artwork, and bonus materials, etc.

But I’d rather have a regular “still here, still going” notification than to hear nothing at all.
