My first Monsterhearts skin.

My first Monsterhearts skin.

My first Monsterhearts skin. The Witch Hunter is a skin for the school’s hall monitor. Keep tabs on the student body and burn anyone who thinks that just because they can cast a few spells or turn into a wolf they can get away with cutting class and starting fights.

  1. Surprisingly decent for a first skin. Ran it past one of my playtesters here are the notes we came up with

I’m not a big fan of the name “Witch Hunter” but the best thing I can come up with is the Justicar or The Inevitable (The LN Denizens of the D&D Planescape) (Or go with The Inquisitor like what you named your gang, or The Constable… yeah Constable fits better)

The opening blurb is a little long and could use less of the specific instances you gave to shorten it.

“Corruption is everywhere. No one has respect for how things should be done, for the rules. Their selfish desires lead them to hurt others and themselves. Chaos spreads, and order crumbles.

You won’t stand for it. If they think they can hide their evil deeds in the darkness, you’ll bring a torch to burn the shadows away. And if someone gets burned by the fire you use to purify the darkness? Tragic,  but if that’s the only way to exorcise evil, so be it.”

Looking at the Teachers pet and Torches and Pitchforks, why isn’t Hot one of the +1 stats. Volatile fits but none of the moves go with Cold

The core move may need a roll or something to make it more interesting.

Clemency does not give the benefit to the Witch Hunter. Perhaps adding that the player also gains a string on them

This is what I cooked up

When a Wanted person confesses their crimes to you, Take a string on them and they lose the condition Wanted then they choose one

    – They promise you to never do anything wrong again.

    – They point you to someone else, they give another character the Wanted condition.

The play-tester added that with the way it is written you could scrap this move entirely and nothing would change because based on the back-story that is something they are already inclined to do. Perhaps rolling this move into the core move would be the spice that core move needs to really come alive.

White Whale may need to be spelled out better because it was difficult to understand that the person does not lose the Wanted condition (Which was my inference into it otherwise I agree with my playtester’s impression that it also is not any benefit to they Witch hunter and thus might need to be rolled into the core move also)

    Stakes and Silver Bullets

I can see the roll being on volatile but I think that it fits better as you rolling with the strings you have on an individual to represent the level of information you have on the target rather than you just relative physical prowess. The play tester also suggested that it go from choose 3 to choose 2 on a 10+.

I am personally confused how the not running away or not using supernatural powers is supposed to be of any benefit if ti’s only a one use thing that has to be used before hand.

The sex move is too long. We would suggest moving the second half to a skin move

    Sadist

When you have someone at your mercy, using threats and/or pain to force them to answer your questions, you both trigger your sex moves.

Overall the Skin is good but it is lacking the pazazz to send it into the next level. It has great theme-ing though it does step on the Choosen’s territory. The playtester suggested theme-ing it more at all wrongdoings (or even mortal specific wrong doings) than making another monster hunter

mercy, using threats and/or pain to

force them to answer your questions,

you both trigger your sex moves.”

That doesn’t sound like sex to me. Like at all.

“When you have someone at your

mercy, using threats and/or pain to

force them to answer your questions,

    roll to turn them on”

    might work

  3. Tim Franzke To be fair, It doesn’t sound like normal sex but is DOES feel like an equivalent level of intimacy. (Hang a man over a volcano and on that day you will know the man kind of thing). It also is a passable, if entirely wrongheaded in tone, description of BDSM practices where sexual gratification is derived from restraint and punishment.
