So last night I’m at minor league baseball game.

So last night I’m at minor league baseball game. The crowd is only sorta into the game despite the home team clawing back from an 8-2 deficit. The guy working the sound booth is trying all the usual sound effects from the old school organ and Queen riffs to movie and video game clips (“Finish Him”). The team promo people are out doing line dances and hip hop dances and there’s some gimmick between every inning (like tricycle races)…they’re all really working it, but the crowd is pretty relaxed and mostly just enjoying the peaceful evening, only half paying attention.

Then the sound guy hits paydirt. The next sound follows a big swing and a miss by a visiting batter — a good old Ric Flair Woo!.

From that point on the crowd was into it. Fans in one section would Woo, then fans in another section would Woo back and pretty soon it was non stop Woos..like Wooing in the round…like the overlapping sounds of crickets at night only instead of chirps its Ric Flair Woos…for 3 straight innings the Woos never stopped. At any pause the sound guy would hit the clip again and another Woo wave would sweep the stadium.

All it took to get the fans into the game was a Woo.

That shit is gold.

  1. Huh, that article is interesting. I don’t know what the players at this game thought, but the stadium went from dead silent other than the sound guy to a few hundred people activity making noise. I would think that was a plus.

But then minor league guys are just glad to play…I doubt many of them would call their fans jackasses…at least not publicly.
