So I’m dead set on finishing and publishing my AW hack.

So I’m dead set on finishing and publishing my AW hack.

So I’m dead set on finishing and publishing my AW hack.

I need to know what has to be said  or included about the original game.

As far as covering all credits/tributes/copyright issues.

Can any folks who’ve already done this fill me on what I need to do?

  1. Hi Taylor White! What are you working on? How close are you to publishing? Here’s what you need to know, straight from the Barf Forth Apocalyptica forum:

“If you’re going to use my exact words, you need my permission. Get with me and tell me which sections of my text you’d like to use. In general I don’t have any reservations about this, so probably I’ll just say yes and away you go. If you want to use, like, whole chapters, or my character playbooks, or really extensive pieces, that’ll mean licensing them from me.

Better if you use your own words! Then you don’t need my permission at all. I hope you’ll give me and Apocalypse World a mention on your credits or notes page; do that and I’m happy.

This applies to hacks with wholly original content only. If you decide to make a Star Wars hack, well, that’d mean licensing Star Wars. Good luck with that!

    -Vincent”

If what you are looking for is the Powered by the Apocalypse graphic, that’s available by emailing us and asking for it.

  2. Meguey Baker It’s called “Lonely World”. It’s a setting where an “Invader” has wiped out most of humanity. It’s an apocalypse setting, but one where the characters are the remnants of this great extinction event. They used to have regular lives just like us. But now that’s all gone, right? So it’s all about them coming to grips with what the world is like now. A world dominated and saturated with Invaders.

The Invader is the big thing with Lonely World. It follows an unyielding set of rules, but cosmetically it’s something different for every campaign. Invader is dangerous and murderous and scary as hell. Always. So because the Invader is different, created by the MC and the players in the very first session, the entire world is different. In all the playtests I’ve done, this is everyone’s favorite part. Making what destroys them unique to their group.

As far as my manuscript, I haven’t used any copied text from Apocalypse World. It’s all my own writing. I have carried over game mechanics and some more generic terms like “harm”. I’m not sure where the barrier is on that, but if you need to take a look at a sample or something I’d be fine with it.

also yeah i need a “powered by the apocalypse” graphic.

thanks for the quick response Meguay

  3. also it’s all finished, I just have to upload it to a self-publishing site and get the formatting right for them and do that whole mess. shouldn’t be more than a week or two i think.
