I got a question on corruption moves, basically when you use adapt new ones, for example if I was playing a Vampire character and wanted to use Blood Magic since that qualifies as corruption not to mention adaption as well, it seems when you use them do you have to retire your character which they’ll return as a threat?

Well basically I don’t think I like the idea of loosing your character although  Blood Magic and Adaptability are probably the only two corruption moves I would have anyways.

  1. “I don’t think I like the idea of loosing your character” Sorry? I mean, that’s the whole point of Corruption, you get cool abilities for a little while until they consume you. If it’s not your bag, there’s not much I can do about that. [shrugs]

  3. Yeah, what’s the point of having those powers where you can’t even use it without loosing your character? This is absurd in my opinion.

Well what else is there anyways? Is there another game out there? To be honest I’m really getting tired of the “personal horror” “power corrupts” tropes. And also I wonder if there’s a game that you can never loose your character just because the powers they use or the choices they make unless you retire the character yourself, no game should force you to retire anyone’s character ever in my opinion, same thing with WoD’s humanity system and such.

  5. Well to be honest, my choices for alternatives are really running low at this point and I can’t think of anything else at all nor do I want to do a wild goose hunt for something that may not even exist at all.

  7. The Corruption mechanic is one of the core elements of Urban Shadows that make the game. Game mechanics, when intentionally crafted (and Urban Shadows is intentionally crafted), feed into the atmosphere the game is trying to create. Urban Shadows is, thematically, a game about struggle and compromise, about having to incur difficult-to-pay debts in the long term to make a difference in the short term. It doesn’t have to be unremittingly grim, but the mechanics are designed to keep the players on a knife’s edge between making it and being in way over their heads.

The point of Corruption is, as mentioned in a comment above, to make success through will-to-power possible but dramatically costly. When you want to do something that avoids, at least temporarily, difficult compromises with NPCs or other players, you make a compromise with your own self-hood. Everything is a compromise for survival or a higher goal.

If that’s not a theme you want to play with, these mechanics will not be good for the game you want to run.

Which it isn’t at all, while I’m looking for a Urban Fantasy “Gothic Punk” setting that has Vampires, Werewolves, etc without all the WoD’s “Personal Horror” fluff nor Urban Shadow’s “Corruption” fluff either.

My alternatives are running low at this point since I tend to leave the games for what it is and what it’s meant to be played as in not bothering with them at all since fixing them would be a waste of time so all I left either once again finding another game which chances will be once again very low and next to none or create a game of my own which is far less likely anyways.

Although is it possible to entirely remove the corruption mechanics? If not then I don’t know what to do at this point.

Try not bother posting at all if all you’re going to do is just throw abusive unhelpful insults around especially since that’s defiantly NOT what I’m looking for at all thank you very much.

Sorry couldn’t tell it was sarcasm but I certainly didn’t find it funny though  since I’m no Brony especially since I find the entire thing to be disgusting and pedophilic as well in my own personal opinion about that whole ‘phenomenon’.

  15. Ok that’s it, you’re done Zonilo1. To everyone else, I’ve banned them from this Community as I will not put up with this waste of time any long and certainly won’t allow their brand of discrimination. Thank you for taking the time to try and answer a Community member’s question though.

  17. zonilo1 Maybe Dresden Files RPG would work for you? Nothing forcing you to give into corruption there.

Andrew Medeiros Yeah they were getting very offensive. I think you made the right call.

  19. Nigel Clarke I agree, I think Zonilo is looking towards more of a superhero game that is just about Vampires. Something where they can be all powerful, this game is not that.
