Hello everyone.

Hello everyone.

Hello everyone. I’ve just started running my first game and one of my characters made a drone with the +medical sensor tag. The way I interpret that is that it gives medical stats of things it oberves. Temp, heartrate, etc. and maybe provide bonuses when that info is helpful. But I was wondering how you guys would use it?

  1. Look for signs of addiction, medical conditions, previous surgery or gene-manipulation. But what it can scan should depend on what kind of sensor it is. Detecting genetic engineering may require the drone to incorporate some kind of sampler.

  2. In addition to heart rate and temp, I would add monitoring of respiration and pupil dilation. Rationale being when used in combination you could extrapolate emotions like scared, nervous, angry, etc. or whether somebody is probably lying, etc.

Not inconceivable for it to provide a generic readout of number of living beings in a room without giving too much detail on exact locations…

  3. Is the target nervous or afraid? Are they tensing up like they’re ready to fight? Are they on drugs? Does that guy’s height, weight, posture, gait, skeletal structure, existence of cyberware, other biometric factors, match our target that we scanned earlier during legwork, or is it his clever decoy? Is Steve our hitter affected by a poison that was on something that he touched?

Some of that may depend on what the sensor reads. If your world has Star Trek tricorders then just about anything. Otherwise the drone may have to rely on visual sensors (not just visible spectrum) or physical contact. On the other hand scanning something may trip sensors designed to pick up active scanning like backscatter x-ray scans or Kinect style scanning.
