Hey everybody!

Hey everybody!

Hey everybody!

So I’m getting ready to run a sci-fi, space game for a few people online. And I really wanted to find or create some aliens for it. In case they run into them. Or in case of Mass Effect style, they are surrounded by them.

I’ve done a little searching online but haven’t come up with anything yet.

I would be really appreciative for any assistance.

You guys are usually really helpful with these kinds of things.

Good adventuring 😀

Quick Edit: I found Dungeon Planet on DriveThruRPG. So anything more would be fantastic.

  1. I recommend Uncharted Worlds for a game with expansion Far Beyond Humanity for ideas about playing with Mass Effect powers and adding alien races.

Ultimately all you need to know about your alien race is how do they replicate, how do they communicate and that they have acid blood and deadly claws, because player make all the rolls and you only respond.

There is also another sci-fi games Impulse Drive, it is still in development but I don’t know does it have any support for creating alien races or Mass Effect style of powers.

  2. I also want to leave a plug for Uncharted Worlds and the new expansion Far Beyond Humanity as well. Running a campaign with it and it’s a blast (with aliens). I especially like the way characters are created without using strict playbooks but still building on certain themes and tropes.

  3. For aliens, download two things: Stars Without Number, and Vast & Starlit.

SWN can be found free on drivethrurpg, and it has sections for describing an alien culture with Lenses that emphasize their cultural values. It also has random tables for body type, specific traits, etc. If you spring for the “deluxe” book instead of the basic book, you also get a chapter on societal evolution, and that might be interesting but it’s not needed.

Vast & Starlit, meanwhile, is PWYW on drivethrurpg and has extremely extremely lightweight guidelines for creating aliens, tech, civilizations, etc. Its a very cool group exercise that involves picking base details and then mutating those in different ways to arrive at a final product that is nothing like what you started with. I am NOT doing it justice, go check it out.

None of that is stats, though, but stats will depend on what brand of PbtA you’re playing. If you want more DW stats, there’s Moonicorn vs Spacewurm, but that’s probably too much of an investment just for the monster stats.

  4. I would be remiss in not seconding Uncharted Worlds and its new supplement, Far Beyond Humanity. It hits that Mass Effect feel and FBH has all your alien-y goodness as well.
