Scenario: the functional equivalent of the Cuckoos from X-Books is stuck in a gestalt and causing issues. (Ok let’s be honest: they ARE the Cuckoos, but not really since I know nothing about them except that they exist)

Was pondering making a Custom Move to try to pull one out of the gestalt. But I put it off til 6 hours before the game and now am brain fried.

So is this a good idea, and if so, got any suggestions?

thanks!

  1. This sounds awesome.

When meddling with a gestalt mind to pull a single consciousness loose, roll+Freak. On a hit, you get them free. On a 7-9, choose 1. On a 10+, choose 2.

    • Their absence goes unnoticed for sometime (or else they’ll soon realize something is wrong)

    • They can safely draw on the minds of the gestalt (or else doing so ensnares them again)

    • There’s no psychic backlash (or else there’s a cost to meddling with the maelstrom of a hive mind)

On a miss, the psychic maelstrom that is a gestalt mind washes over you, and drags your mind out with its undertow.

  2. ooh this looks good!! thank you!

We’re playing in a Marvel/DC Mashup verse for complicated reasons. And one of my players is a Reformed who has Emma Frost (headmistress of a private school in Massachusetts) as one of her criminal contacts. Her Time Passes roll resulted in Emma’s problems crashing into her life, and I decided to have it manifest as the Cuckoos got stick in a gestalt FOR SOME REASON and then mentally paralyzed Emma FOR SOME REASON, and the Reformed is having the responsibility for it dumped on her. Because I said so!

  3. I would say that you attempt to pull one out with Mundane; if you are a telepath or something and want to unleash your powers to do it, that’s where Freak comes in. Although you might do better to think about how you could use Provoke on one of them.

  4. No one opted to use the move, instead opting for using an Adamantine helmet to isolate Phoebe (I think) and then convince her to help break the gestalt before it sucked more people in. Then they went around fighting/freeing other people. Phoebe (I think) got whacked really hard by a possessed Thunderbird, but she’ll live. At the end, X-23 (the Bull) and Cedalion (the Legacy, nephew of Hercules) had meaningful conversations with her. I am sure she is going to turn out good. Oh and Elsa Bloodstone, recent transfer to Massachusetts Academy but not a Hellion (the player character team goes to Abigail Adams Academy in Boston/Halcyon City), tried to kill Empath with a brick, but the heroes stopped her. And then Cedalion asked her to homecoming. So the homecoming session should be a hoot.

  5. Oh, the reason Cedalion asked her to Homecoming was to clear his Insecure condition. He, and the rest of us, figured asking out an attractive older invulnerable girl who exudes confidence and decisiveness, AND seems to have a murderous streak, would be sufficient to clear that condition.
