Apocalypse World 2nd edition question: How would you determine the effect of a vehicle plowing into a large gang?

My thought was to count the vehicle as a small, medium, or large gang in its own right dependent on the massive, determine damage as such, and then figure out how it looks in the fiction with a conversation. Does that seem accurate?

  1. Let’s see. When a vehicle plows into a gang, the rules on p213 say that it inflicts 3-harm (ap) + massive, and the rules on p211 say that the gang suffers -1 for a small gang, -2 for medium, -3 for large.

So a normal 2-massive car against a large gang would inflict 3 + 2 – 3 harm, for a total of 2-harm (ap). The rules on p211 lower down say that this means many injuries, several serious, a couple of fatalities.

A 3-massive truck or bus against a large gang would inflict 3 + 3 – 3 harm, for a total of 3-harm: widespread injuries, many serious, several fatalities.

Is that what you’re looking for?

  2. Absolutely, thank you! Also, may I say, the mechanics of AW are so elegant and simple. Thank you and Meguey for your creation. You’ve both allowed me to tell stories that I have struggled to tell for years because I always let mechanics get in my way.
