Rules doubt: Advancement –> ‘A move from another archetype’
May a player choose the main move from another archetype? By main I mean the move that is preselected for that archetype.
I know you may not get extras from another playbook by choosing a move from that playbook that references it. That is, you may not chose Channeling from the Wizard playbook to get access to wizard spells, because spells are an extra. But, what happens to moves that do not grant you any extra?
Example:
Lets say I play a Wolf playbook. I do not only slash and kill my enemies, but I also eat their hearts in front of the pack. After a few sessions, I choose an advancement and mark ‘A move from another playbook’. That move is ‘Eternal Hunger’ from the Vamp playbook. That move does not grant you any extra, but it is the basic Vamp move that comes preselected for Vamps.
I am not infected by vampirism, I do not want any vamp web or such, so I do not wish to use the ‘Change to another archetype’ advancement. I just think that move would fit very well to my savage, heart-eater wolf.
Is that allowed by the rules?
It’s actually in the book that you cannot
Aaron Griffin Could you point where?
The only thing I find on the topic is on page 164:
‘
Taking a move from another Archetype doesn’t entitle you to their extras; you can’t take Channeling to get The Wizard’s spells or The Devil Inside to get The Tainted’s demon form. Anything that relies on an extra can only be acquired via advancement by fully switching over to that Archetype; you’ve got to go all the way if you want access to the big stuff. Of course, your MC might give you an extra from another playbook if the fiction demands it.
‘
As written, I understand you may take any move, but you won’t access any extra. So no matter what vamp move you take, you won’t ever have a Vamp Web unless you switch your archetype. But I do not see a ban to take a signature move there.
(I might be wrong or there might be something elsewhere in the book that I am missing)
No, you’re right and I misread your question. A Wolf may take Eternal Hunger.
