So happy to return to Monsterhearts after so long a time. Ocean’s Edge, NJ is home to The Hollow named Baby, Adeline (The Serpentine), Silas (The Ghoul), Cassius (The Vampire) and Levi (The Werewolf) where the party is just underway, and the jocks are ready to jump that vampire jerk, the werewolf is more closeted about being gay than a wolf, and the snake girl is being manipulated by the cheerleaders.

I missed you, Monsterhearts.

Gotta share, I got to play in a game at Metatopia, and even after running it twice, and playing in it once, I got a better handle on this game and MAN am I psyched to run the long campaign.  I used The Bull to create Rhino, a boy magic’d into becoming a human rhino hybrid, deep loner looking for team support.  Pigheaded, he ran into the fray, got in trouble that got his team mixed up, and then got into a fight with a pretentious jerk “hero” who tried to “save” someone I let go.

Thanks to a great team who left me to deal with this on my own, and to Brendan Conway for running and really enjoying our characters.

I discovered my mistake in buying a hard copy.  It’s hard to copy edit information without a PDF for online players.

C’est la vie.

Game session review #2 – Moulin Rouge

Game session review #2 – Moulin Rouge

Game session review #2 – Moulin Rouge

Game was just as interesting, if not more so, without having our intro character chat and going right into story.  Rolling on a faction is much better this time around, as we have some minor plot and investment from the story session.    Discussion comes up if you can mark a faction for a player that is already marked in the intro move.  I imagine not, but if you have players that are jerks, well…

Everything flows smoothly during the course of play, Debts between PCs seem frivolous.  Unless they are working at cross purposes, I can only see them being used provide help when no one really wants to roll dice and take the chance.  When stats increase this will become another moot point.

Session ending move makes no sense.  Why would I lose a rating in a faction if I increased my rep with another?  If my game session only takes place for a few hours of an evening, is another faction actually going to take note that I didn’t play with them?  It’s kind of like an obsessive spouse you get in trouble with if you don’t call when you’re late.

Need some time with other skins to play around with to figure them out.

Game Session 1 of the 2.0 to report: Our game is set in Paris at the turn of the century focusing on the nightclub, the Moulin Rouge.  The game has started smoothly enough; however, the changes in the moves, rules and advances are awkward for vets of the 1.1 system.

My current problems:The advancement system has an artificial, plot focused feeling, forcing players to interact with a focus on the faction orientations rather than character improvement.

Also, Wild needs support even in playtest, currently only represented by the Fae.

Debts seem to have gotten weaker from PC to PC, only seeming to have story functions rather than true mechanical purposes.  It feels like attempted mechanics on what could easily just be roleplay.

What I LIKE:  Skins are still well done and got better.  I want the rest!  But from what I’ve seen, they’ve bene tightened up a touch here and there and that works well.

Basic Moves and Faction Moves feel cleaner.  I can sense a certain reliance on Mind more often, but that’s just cause we started with a lot of new faces in the crowd.

Looking forward to seeing what comes next.

The Curse of GMing…I am running another session of a U-S Campaign, one of 2 I’m running…I have played the game once in a single one shot.  I need to play with some of these new things.  Anyone out there running a one-shot or something?
