Under the bright lights in stadiums and arenas across the world, in front of the roaring masses and the unblinking eyes of national television, the superstars of wrestling hold court. The likes of Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Jake ‘the Snake” Roberts and Ted DiBiase reign supreme. These men are kings.

A king you are not.

In cramped school gymnasiums, muggy community centers and backlot venues you put in the work. The real work. This is the grind. The lights aren’t as bright. The crowds aren’t as loud. The checks – don’t always clear. But to a man, the hunger is real. Grab a mic. Step into the square circle. Put on a show for those damn kids. And you too can have a taste of the life of those superstars a world away.

Two-hour sessions, Friday night at 9pm EST for three consecutive weeks. Playing via Roll20 with Hangouts for comms Stories & Dice community members have first priority., so come check us out. Everyone is welcome.

It took nearly 15 sessions of play, but I think I’ve finally come to grips with being okay with relying so heavily on Face Adversity.

Last night’s session pitted the crew against an alien jungle environment that posed a threat around every tree and under ever stone. At one point in my GMing I’d have languished over the idea of calling for the same move repeatedly.

This session solidified for me what was the intent of the design all along. The varied flavor of the fictional situation shades the Face Adversity any number of ways. We had what I consider one of our most enjoyable and up tempo sessions in a while and it was all drive off snowballing hard moves thanks to a slew of triggered Face Adversity moves.

What’s an example of something just clicking for you?

The crew of the Bluetooth has escaped from the planet Afta but at what cost? We’ll play to find out as we move undoubtedly move towards another intergalactic incident. Come check us out if you’re so inclined.

This time, we’ll aim to stream with sound for the entire two hours! Big aspirations.

Has anyone had any experience with pulling the focus from the moment to moment beats of the fiction, further out to encompass a wider scope when engaging UW moves as written?

The group that I play with is looking to zoom out and progress our setting forward a bit. After some lobbying from a fellow player, I’m fairly confident that there are no inherent inhibitors to engaging the moves in this manner. Everyone at the table is respectful of the fiction and I wouldn’t expect anyone to overreach and exploit the moves.

That said, are there any pit falls, or better yet, potential golden opportunities that lay before us while using this approach?

What are some successes you’ve had in your play experience that keeps the Get the Job aspect of the session feeling tight and snappy? The desire to maintain setting exposition, especially early in a campaign, is drawing the Get the Job phase out to a good portion of our play sessions.

How well do flashbacks to accepting the mission jive with the mechanical need to roll Get the Job early in the session?
