After I MCing Dungeon World, Worlds in Peril, and The Sprawl(now playing), I feel keenly the importance of using Tags as fictional positioning and as an ingredient in MC moves. But sometimes, I forget to use (or don’t know how to use) them and just make a series of dull description. And I realize the story starts to go flat.

I love Tags because they fuse into the fiction seamlessly(which is the main reason why I switched my go-to system from Fate to PbtA. Sometimes, using Aspects feels artificial to me). But unlike Aspects, I find it very easy to forget to use Tags because there is no bonus or penalty to use Tags. They are only for fictional positioning.

So, how can I become proficient in using Tags as a MC? Could you share your tips?

” If you complete the mission and get paid in full, you get back twice the amount that you staked.

” If you complete the mission and get paid in full, you get back twice the amount that you staked.

” If you complete the mission and get paid in full, you get back twice the amount that you staked. If a result of getting the job was that “The job pays well”, you get back three-times what you staked.” (p.127)

So, If I choose both of options (“get paid in full” and “The job pays well”, I get back five times amount what I staked?

According to the comics in the book, Quell chose her powers before she jumped off the building to the ground.

According to the comics in the book, Quell chose her powers before she jumped off the building to the ground. (Simple: Absorb small amounts of energy), and when she jumped, Quell’s player and EIC say :

——————————————————-

Quell’s player : So do I have to defy danger again now that I’m falling to see if I’ll get hurt again?

EIC : You said it’s simple to absorb small amounts of energy, so it must be difficult to absorb a bunch like this at one time. So yeah. I think so. Add your protect stat to the roll since you have to endure withstand the impact.

If Quell did something new that is not on her Power profile sheet, didn’t she trigger a Push move instead of Defy Danger? Or can a player choose whether she pushes the power or just defies danger (and not pushes her power)?

My take on Condition Threshold :

My take on Condition Threshold :

You can defeat an enemy regardless of the number of Conditions, if it suits well with the fiction. But anytime EIC gets a chance, he can revive the enemy with EIC action.

But if you really want to neutralize the threat permanently(or at least, for a long time), you should give a conditions until the threshold exceeds. EIC can’t use the enemy until the fiction demands it (and it needs a lot of excuses)

What do you think?

I have bought this bundle today, and was very impressed, especially with the Power profiles.

It is mainly a power type list supplement, but it not only introduces various power effects, but also deals with the weakness, the limitation, the reputation of the hero, etc, related to the power type. It will be very helpful for both WiP EICs and players.

Now it is $7.95 with two other books (Gadget Guides, Player’s guide to Emerald city). I think it is a very resonable price. :)

Let’s share the idea how to make a difference between Power Profile categories (Simple/Difficult/Borderline) in fiction.

For example, I have used these technique :

– Making harsher EIC move or Giving a harsher condition when players roll 6- if they tried diffcult stuff. (If a hero failed a simple thing, I just decided he suffered small problems, but If a hero failed a borderline thing, I decided he failed badly)

– Giving heroes a condition which limit their power, so they have less chance to use diffcult power. (“Your battlesuit’s power percentage has dropped below 50%, You can’t use Unibeam now.”)

– Suggest a much more dangerous situation when players try to do difficult stuff. (You can shoot the trick arrow… But you have to take the advantageous position first, so you have to pass through the minions.)

– Describe Heroes success on a large scale if he succeeds at diffcult stuff.
