Hi all

Hi all

Hi all,

While looking over the hooks, I got pretty confused by the wording of the Danger Hook Impulse for “Danger vs Mundane”, which is “To interrupt dangerous situations”. Does this mean that NPCs are barging in and meddling with the PC’s business, afraid they’ll go too far, do the wrong thing, etc.? Or is it that the PC is driven to interrupt and interfere in dangerous situations, painting them in a more dangerous light?

Likewise, the other Impulse – to mistrust and provoke – could easily apply to both the NPCs that suspect the PC and label them a Danger (perhaps provoking them to become the Danger), OR could apply to the PC, whose suspicion and provoking of enemies makes them seem dangerous…

The rest of the hook (understanding by those close, fear by others) works perfectly for a PC in my game, and I know exactly how to push them towards either Label, so I don’t particularly need this question resolved. I’m just curious, heh!

Thanks!

So, I’m in the midst of a Masks campaign where I’m taking influence from things like Old Man Logan and Days of Future Past.

The campaign is likely to go on the move in road trip fashion. We’re looking to use things like The Quiet Year, Microscope and Kingdom to assist in world building outside of Halcyon city limits.

I’m curious if anyone else has broken the mold of what seems to be the traditional style of Masks game?

Just looked at the new update for Masks, and wanted to say that it’s really lovely to get to see the “Masks guys” in a little more detail including their interactions, and also see Fronts used for Masks in the GM section. As a GM, I find this kind of material incredibly helpful in planning my own games.

The idea of starting the game by merging the respectable young superhero team and the outsiders is brilliant and I am sorely tempted to steal it for my game.

Another question for this class community 😉 When you finally complete the Drives list in the Beacon Playbook, if you change playbooks (rather than retire), does it count as an advance or are you in effect getting access to a third Playbook?

Our character creation session ran too long to get some play time in, so tonight will be our first session.

Our character creation session ran too long to get some play time in, so tonight will be our first session. Since I’ve got character backstories already, I’ve started considering some potential arcs and thought I might brainstorm a bit on here. If you’re playing in my campaign on Sundays, please don’t read any further…

Red, the Janus: Mutant with energy absorption and impossible mobility. Mother not aware of secret identity, and disapproves of Red’s heroics, feeling that a girl her age should be living a normal kid’s life.

I figure Red got the super genes from somewhere, so what if her mum is actually a former superhero (likely Bronze generation) who retired from the life after a mission that broke her team apart. She disapproves of Red because she reminds her of her own youth. In order to bring this out into the open, I think maybe a former enemy of her mum escapes the Spike and seeks out those that crossed them (and their loved ones) for revenge.

Cassie, the Nova: A powerful young sorceress, abandoned in the woods by her birth parents (who were scared of her powers) when she was a toddler. Found and raised by an evil witch who wanted to use her powers for her own ends. Accidentally killed the witch when she lost control of her powers. Eventually encountered a homeless guy called Boothby, who seemed to understand about magic and offered her moral support and guidance.

I’m thinking Cassie was destined to be the next Magus (sorcerer supreme), but she was lost and adopted by the witch before the Magus could find and train her. He was forced to take on a different apprentice (Everard, from the Deck of Villainy) who took on the mantle too soon after an incident that strips the previous Magus of his power. I’m thinking Boothby is the former Magus, who now recognises Cassie as his rightful successor and hopes to prepare her for that destiny.

Harper, the Delinquent: In and out of supervillain juvie since escaping an orphanage which was a front for Professor Van Brutan’s illegal experiments, resulting in his psychic powers.

Either Van Brutan or other escaped test subjects (or both) could show up to cause problems.

Fomá, the Outsider: Sole survivor of an observational team that crash landed on Earth after a run-in with some Poachers (aliens who raid pre-spaceflight worlds for creatures to sell as exotic pets). He doesn’t want to return home because he resents the overly structured society, and poses as a ‘transformed human’ because pre-spaceflight civilisations are not supposed to know aliens exist.

I’m thinking that Fomá is not the only alien living undercover on Earth. A covert agent/bounty hunter recognises him for what he is and maybe enlists his aid in dealing with some alien undesirables seeking to cause trouble on earth.

Those are all my initial thoughts on arcs tied to the characters. Was hoping folks could help me flesh them out and maybe tie a few of them together?

Quick question guys. Is the ‘Directly Engaging a Threat’ move the only way to impose a Condition on an NPC villain?

Since some people are usually interested here’s another theoretical build. The front page has a short story from a longer bit of old fanfiction which I was using to develop this character and a few others (I sometimes use fanfiction as a tool for developing original character concepts). The short story shows a lot of the character’s internal thought processes.

Above the story are links to versions of the character built in Hero System 6th Level, Fate Core, Fate Accelerated, Strands of Fate, Mutants and Masterminds, Masks, Monster of the Week, and, of course, 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons.

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone!

Hello Everyone! It’s a pleasure to meet you all. I am running my very first MASKS game tomorrow and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or pointers for this game.

Also, I understand the want to keep Halycon City vague so the players and GM can insert their idea upon it but is there like a rough map that has been created or that is in the works?

Hello everyone, it’s nice to see this has such a big community, I was wondering if there’s any games been ran at the moment that has a free spot. But that’s not too important, it’s just nice to see a community like this and maybe just chill out and talk about ideas of characters or things to do, which I really like to do.

I feel like I or someone else has made this observation before, but what the heck.

I feel like I or someone else has made this observation before, but what the heck. I just finished watching Son of the Batman this morning, and I was thinking about how the collective Robins embody a range of Masks Archetypes (disregarding powers). In my mind, it goes Dick Grayson – Protege, Jason Todd – Delinquent, Tim Drake – Legacy, Stephanie Brown – Beacon, Damian Wayne – Bull.
