So, looking at the new pledge levels, I find myself unsure where to stay. I am currently at Team HQ level. I am excited about bringing the game to my family and creating a custom villain. However, with the Utility Belt level, with the hardcover books, that is REALLY enticing. But I’d lose the villain.

Which would you do?

Alright.

Alright.

Alright. So I have ran a couple of sessions of Masks so far. Its been a blast and I’ve loved it to death, though tripping over the ‘share a moment of celebration with someone’.

So, w hen I saw this, I thought it was kinda a personal moment. Like ‘you two both did something cool or you got a personal triumph’. But in game the players have been using it basically as an end of session move-they dealt with the giant robot gorilla and got the poor girl who summoned it to safety, and they trade high fives and everyone goes through their moves.

Moreover, second session they dealt with a villain called the Watchmaker who was making villains more and more angry. They dealt with two villains who were relatively quick fights (and wanted to trigger that after each of them) and when they got to the watchmaker they flubbed a few key rolls-and while they beat t hem, he managed to trigger his aggression bomb through the city, instigating mass riots and anger-and proceeded to trigger their moment of victory again because ‘at least they beat him up and he couldn’t do something worse than that’.

Am I reading this wrong? Are they right and you can use it after each fight? Are they using it gratuitously?

A question about Changing Their Self-Image:  According to the rules, “When you have Influence over someone, take +1 to all moves targeting them, including rejecting their Influence.”  However, you can only use Changing Their Self-Image if you have influence over them.  See:  “When you use your Influence over someone to change their self-image, roll + Mundane.”  Does this mean that Changing Their Self-Image is always made at a +1 bonus?

Why the heck not, I’ll share my good morning music to the Masks community first.

New potential GM here!

New potential GM here!

New potential GM here!  As I’m optimistically looking towards the future, I’ve got a question about Advancement.  Certain moves that everyone should be able to acquire are linked to elements of characters that are not necessarily transferable.

Ex.  The Janus wants to take Venting Frustration from the Protege’s playbook.  But they don’t have a mentor with a Label they denies.  Do they acquire a mentor then?  And does this mean they have to decide the mentor’s powers as well?

Son of Ex.  The Doomed wants to take Words of the Past from the Legacy’s playbook.  Does this mean they get a Legacy?  Just one person or four of them?  Do they also have to roll to see how their Legacy is feeling about them?

It’s easy to brush aside these questions by saying it wouldn’t be appropriate, but I can think of situations where they would be.  The Janus finds another hero with a secret identity to help them along or the Doomed finds out they aren’t the first to struggle against this fate.  And if it’s narratively and mechanically  sound to take one of these conditional moves, what do?

I’ve got a few ideas, but I wanted to hear what other people thought first.

Hey folks, i’m preparing to run my first session of Masks tonight, and trying to wrap my mind around a few things.

One big one – what’s the deal with Adult Moves?  Presumably the GM never rolls dice, and the Adult Moves call for rolls, so are these usable by our PC heroes?.

Is there a mechanical trigger to open these moves up?  Or are they just generally available whenever fictionally appropriate?

thanks!

Is there a find stuff out about the world move?

Is there a find stuff out about the world move? A barf forth Apocalyptica, spout knowledge or investigation type move?

I found it missing in the game as the source material has a focus on investigation of some mysteries. Care to weigh in Jenni Sands?
