So here’s what I’ve got for my basic moves so far:

It might help you guys understand a bit more where I want to go with this. In a nutshell, the investigation part of the game is created by the players and the GM in a ”play to find out” fashion through the moves. An investigation should a series of scenes most of them leading to a character making an investigative move to get more Evidence and eventually to a file your report in order to close a case move

Feel free to comment either directly in Drive or here. I’m slowly working on the playbooks now.

Hey Sage LaTorra John Harper Paul Riddle Adam Blinkinsop and Co. Any further development on ‘A Storm Eternal’? I was re-reading over the notes from our last game back in Feb 2016… Keen to revisit this, but happy to playtest any new rules if they exist?

I have the last PDF from around then, but the site seems to be down.

Still a beta, but it might interest some of you.

So, this is far from a finished project, but since it has been on hiatus for a while and the closed-playtest was good enough, I thought to put it out, for free (PWYW).

It’s a beta, but playable.

It’s very crunchy, but rewarding.

In a few words, it is as close as I managed to get with AW to the style of ASOIAF.

I know this is enough to trigger the interest of many of you.

Then you’ll look at the files, and be like “Oh, there’s 6 batches of files to print and 150 pages to read for a beta… I’m out of here!”

So, yes, it’s 150+ pages to read.

Ok, with illustrations and all, not too dense… and you know a lot of it already, but still, 150 pages, for a beta.

Plus there’s a bunch of stuff to print.

And you need scissors and glue at the table, to literally put the pieces of the game together.

Oh, did I mention it has a rotating Game Master, so everyone must read the rules once?

Why do I have the feeling that I am not selling this right? 🙂

(Now, if you actually read the manual, rules are not too complex; the print material is a lot because there are many options, but comes into play in small amounts; there can be just one reading the rules and directing all the others while they take on the role of GM, like in most games with a rotating GM… so it’s technically not impossible to enjoy this beta. What did you say? Challenge accepted?)

Lucky isn’t a real stat – it’s a non-replenishable resource that gives you an auto success. The five stats should total +3 or so. Having a skill means you can’t totally fail that thing. I’m still working out what all the special abilities do, especially “Force is with Me”, which isn’t automatic for anyone, even Jedi.

And… that’s about it. PCs have six hit points, and damage from weapons is a static 1 to 4-ish.

I’ve been following this in development for a while now and I’m very excited to see it on Kickstarter! It really nails academia, and fuses that with being the faculty of a second-tier hogwarts in a really fun way.

Pigsmoke Kickstarter Launched!

It’s a tongue-in-cheek PBTA game about being the faculty at Pigsmoke, America’s foremost college of wizardry. Chase tenure, resist burnout, conduct groundbreaking research and academic rivalries in equal measure, avoid your trash fire home life, cast spells and hide from the results, and try to escape the notice of the Dean while you eke out some sort of personal victory against the all-consuming forces of bureaucracy. It’ll be great!

For any fans of Jadepunk who want to run it in a system other than fate I’ve given it a pbta treatment by starting with a framework from Simple World and building upwards.

The stats reflect how a character responds to danger. Each stat corresponds to each of the five basic Danger Moves in the game. If a character is not experiencing a dangerous situation or asking for assistance no moves are triggered.

To come up with adventure ideas I’ve provided a list of moves the factions in the game make. Each player selects a move and the MC picks one secretly. An adventure is then crafted from those seeds.

This is my first attempt at writing a pbta game so any comments or questions are eagerly awaited. If you have trouble accessing the file please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read and hopefully play this game.

Note – I previously posted this document in the wrong format. It’s now in pdf so hopefully there shouldn’t be any errors.

Is John Harper’s Colonial Marines reskin of The Regiment (link: http://mightyatom.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/the-regiment-colonial-marines-25.html?m=1) a good choice for some XCOM fun? If not, why not? I’m basically lining up the moves for aliens as I type. Kinda thinking that doing XCOM 2 would be good fun, with the Avenger and a scrappy resistance against the aliens that took over the world.

I have another new game design I’d like to playtest soon: Apps is a PbtA game largely inspired by the TV dramas Misfits and The Fades, but suits any story that has a mix of adults and young people, with or without special powers, investigating the supernatural.

This will be the first playtest of this game, which I’m proposing to begin on Tuesday 10th January at 7pm GMT, for 3-4 players, lasting for 3-4 sessions repeating weekly on the same day & time. Attendance at all the sessions of this playtest would be a minimum requirement for players, plus I would also like to complete some game prep beforehand if possible. Comment below if you are interested and available.
