The Kult visual review is finally up. Apologies that it’s a week late – things are a bit crazy this time of year.

In January I’m running Lasers and Feelings for my old TRPG group. For the back end I planned to use a mix of hexcrawl and Apocalypse World threat map.

Has anyone tried this? Is it madness?

I believe it’s pretty board-gamey, and I don’t know if there’s much room for actual role playing in it, but I wanted to experiment with a game that delays character creation so that you are basically a blank slate in the beginning.

I’ve been inspired to work on some mini-games that are meant to be easy to carry around, pick up and play. Like, if you’re sitting at a bar or café or in between other games. These are made to be printed out on A4:s (sorry, US! I’ll try to make some US legal-size versions soon) and folded to a trifold pamphlet.

They’re not currently playtested at all and probably full of faults, but if you want to have a look, here you are.

This is Avast! A game about hollywood pirates.

On a miss: for GMs or players?

On a miss: for GMs or players?

Our group plays a wide variety of PBtA games, and we’re noticing a somewhat frustrating inconsistency across games. On a 6-, where do you expect to find the information for what to do? Coming off of Dungeon World, I’m used to finding instructions for misses on the playbooks, even if it’s just “GM makes a hard move.” It seems like a lot of the newer games completely eschew these instructions on the playbooks. Is this because responding to misses is solely in the purview of the GM? The players in my group find themselves at something of a loss as to what to do.

Just looking for opinions or further insight, I guess.

Ground rules basically boil down to “treat each other with the same respect and dignity there that you have shown here, and it’s all good.”
