Masks the New Generation: Character Concepts

Once again I have decided to do some character concepts for another Powered by the Apocalypse game.  This time I decided to take a crack at Magpie Games’ game of teenage Superheroes.  Masks the New Generation.  A game meant to portray stories, reminiscent o…

This was a playbook idea for Apocalypse World 2nd ed.

This was a playbook idea for Apocalypse World 2nd ed. that wormed its way into my head on my commute home. It was so insistent on coming into being I lost 4 hours of squinting at it just to get two pages written down. So, while far from finished, I’d at least like to introduce you to a fun concept, The Scratcher.

“I came up with the idea based on hobo signs, along with dystopian ‘information smugglers’. Hackers without computers, but with a crazy written language and the maelstrom. Part superspy, part infosmuggling, part psychofuckery.”

Me: Not now Brain.

My Brain: I made a thing!

Me: Brain, you’re supposed to be doing the other thing!

My Brain: I made a thing!

Me: Brain! Stop it! Do the things I told you to! Stop doing your own thing!

My Brain: I MADE A THING!

Anyway, here is the thing my brain made while I was trying to get it to do other things: it’s part of a serial supplement for Dungeon World that describes a sci-fi setting and the adventurers who explore it. I don’t think it’s all that bad, but would appreciate feedback. There are potentially seven more of these to come.

I had this idea for a new Fallen Empires playbook: the Beastmaster.

I had this idea for a new Fallen Empires playbook: the Beastmaster.

I had this idea for a new Fallen Empires playbook: the Beastmaster. It’s still pretty half-baked, but despite liking what I’ve got so far I’m not really sure what else to do with the concept. So I figured maybe comments, critiques & suggestions would help keep me moving on it:

The Beastmaster, a Fallen Empires playbook:

Name:

– Dar, Maax, Tal, Zed, Sacco, Tils

– Kiri, Bonta

Stats:

– Cool +2, Hard =0, Hot -1, Sharp -1, Weird +2

– Cool +2, Hard +1, Hot =0, Sharp -1, Weird +1

– Cool +2, Hard +1, Hot -1, Sharp =0, Weird +1

– Cool +2, Hard -1, Hot +1, Sharp +1, Weird =0

Beastmaster Moves:

• Beastly Companion: You have a companion, detail it. When you want it to perform a specific action roll +cool. On a 10+ it does it, on a 7-9 there is a cost. On a miss the action imperils you or the companion. Otherwise it will act according to its nature, though never in a way to intentionally imperil you or itself.

o Self Sufficient: Each beast costs -1 Keep (minimum of zero) at the beginning of a session.

o Through Their Eyes: Your bond with your beasts is such that with concentration you can view the world through their senses (one companion at a time). If you Read A Person or Situation from this perspective, roll +weird.

Equipment:

– A hand weapon (scimitar, woodsman’s axe, hunting spear).

– Coin or goods worth 2 Keep.

– Clothing suitable to your look, which may include light armour (1 armour).

Beastly Companions: (tricksy=, savage=, fast=, tags)

Choose one of the below, then assign +1 & =0 to it’s other two stats.

– Avian (fast +2)

– Sneak (tricksy +2)

– Large predator (savage +2)

I was struck by a bad case of inspiration (nasty bug that inspiration) and this is what I came up with.

Good morning friends!

Good morning friends!

Good morning friends!

I’ve seen some people in multiple forums make comments about missing the old 1st edition trifold playbooks or threads with people asking if the trifolds will make a comeback, and I would just like to inform all of you that I am (slowly) updating my old playbook link page to include 2nd edition extras. I’ve started by remaking all of the basic 2nd edition playbooks into the “old school” trifold playbooks.

As always, let me know if you spot any typos or if you’d like to see me add a link to the page. Cheers!
