My Urban Shadows campaign is nearing an end and our Hallowed, who is the descendant of Saint George and possessing his magical dragon-slaying sword Ascalon, is gearing up to battle Sludgebelly, the Dragon at the base of the Detroit River.

Here’s what I’ve come up with for Sludgebelly;

Claws/Bites 3-harm hand messy ap

Breath Weapon 4-harm area close fire

Armour 4

When Unleashing and Studying the dragon, take a -2. When Persuading Sludegbelly with threats, you don’t.

I think our Dragon-slayer to be is in for some pain. :)

Ok, so today I started my first Urban Shadows game and it went just great.

Ok, so today I started my first Urban Shadows game and it went just great. We decided to create a ficcional city for it, and after the character setup we went through the whole process of wondering what might be found across the area, from shopping malls to parks, etc. We tied up the whole thing, pointing out where which of the NPCs related to the PCs can be found and what they are up to, or at least the things the PCs think they are up to.

I’m MCing for my wife and our homemate. She’s playing a teenager aware while he is playing with a cientist (the comic-like jack-of-all-trades kind of cientist) expert, who works for a mining company that is destroying a mountain, which happens to be a sacred place for the fae folk. So right in the setup we have the status quo ripped apart. The company itself is headed by a mysterious sort who knows all about supernatural stuff – so the expert is using a laboratory to research magic stuff for his boss. The girl is living with her immortal uncle, who actually is her ancestor and founder of the city, although it’s all a secret. Only she knows it, found it out in his personal journal, a really big book with information about the supernatural in it.

Really, really excited to keep playing it!

Are there any updates to the rules since 1.1 / Sep 2013?

Are there any updates to the rules since 1.1 / Sep 2013? I’m running Urban Shadows tonight for the 2nd time.  It looks like the World of Darkness add ons are there now. They are compatible with the base game right? An aware won’t feel left out playing along side a mage?

Is there any interest in a hangouts game of Urban Shadows?

Is there any interest in a hangouts game of Urban Shadows? Or possibly one ongoing that I could join in on? I would rather be a player but most nights of the week are open for me to do a hangout.

Just wanted to pop in and say that I had a FANTASTIC time playing Urban Shadows at Dreamation.

Real Big thanks to John Layton, Chris Riexax and Anton Dominic! Last night after our Mage game, we made some headway with a few of the moves that we were unhappy with. Wow! Mage is a 100x better now, excited to play it again!

I will be posting an updated PDF with the changes over the weekend.

Our Apocalypse World game was cancelled last night, so I invited a few people over for a one-shot of Urban Shadows set in 1879 Arizona. We had Prof. Dr. Elsa Vaughan Braun the steam-punk Wizard, Laughing Fox the Aware and Sham Hazzy the Fae. It was a great main cast of characters and I really enjoyed foreshadowing and narrating a weird and wild west. The moves worked out very well in the alternate period.

I suspect future sessions will follow and am anxious for it.

Thanks to Sean Dalziel Rob Wakefield and Aaron Friesen  for their participation!

Hello fellow urban shades!

Hello fellow urban shades!

Hello fellow urban shades! It’s been too long since I’ve posted anything regarding the progress of US. You’ll be happy to know we’re on schedule for our Kickstarter and eventual release, which is exciting and scary all at the same time.

One thing I would love some feedback on is chapter names and headers. I have an idea of naming the chapters after different parts of a metropolis. Here is what I have so far, please let me know if or what you like and what you might change if you were doing this. Thanks in advance! 😀

I The Suburbs: Introduction

II The Tracks: Rules Intro

III The Subway: The Moves

IV The Alleyways: Factions & Debt

V Downtown: The Archetypes

VI Uptown: Character Improvement

VII The Streets: Archetype Breakdown

VIII City Hall: The Master of Ceremonies

IX The Strip: Your Opening Session and Threats

X The Docks: A Different Shade

City Map: Index & Mediography

Of course, these are preliminary names for as of yet undefined chapters. Chapter numbers and functionality are subject to change.

Russel mentioned this blog post earlier today and I just found it.

Russel mentioned this blog post earlier today and I just found it. It’s very well written and speaks highly of the Corruption mechanic especially. It was a great read, I recommend it.
