On the Fae Archetype sheet and on p.

On the Fae Archetype sheet and on p. 137 character description, the Advance* says “Join or lead a faerie court” but on P. 167 under Group Advancements it says “Gain a faerie court.”

I’m assuming P. 167 is correct, because the default assumption is the Fae is already in the court of their Monarch, correct? So the advancement is to gain a kind of sub-court, and the fealty to the Monarch is unaffected.

*Is there a term for the “After 5 Advances” advances? Advanced Advances?

Hello

Hello

Hello,

I own Urban Shadows, but I have never played it before. I am trying to figure out Factions. In the text I see 3 places where it talks about factions. The stats, the moves and the MC moves, and I missing any place else?

I get that the stats represent your level of understanding of the faction, so does “0” mean no knowledge of the faction and a negative number represent a misunderstanding?

In the stat section is says that these numbers will change, but in my admittedly light skimming of the material I failed to see how that happens. Can your understanding of a faction decrease? Maybe that happens as you are fed disinformation?

Before I started reading this over I thought faction was going to represent your standing and influence within that faction, which was wrong. How to you represent that with the players?

(Full disclosure, while I do have a strong interest in playing Urban Shadows the game I am currently running is based on Star Wars World by Andrew Medeiros, and my focus is there until that game finishes. Richard McNutt just shared a hack of the SWW hack that included factions and I am trying to understand them better so that I can take full advantage of the new material.

I am here raiding your hacks, shuffling through your pockets for any loose moves. )

Ok, I need help with this.

Ok, I need help with this.

Ok, I need help with this. Hunter in my table with Deadly and Prepared for anything moves can do, with a custom weapon (on a 10+) up to 7 HARM!!

Here is the math: Shotgun 2-harm, Big add-on (+1 harm), High-powered add-on (+1 harm). Extra add-on from Prepared for anything: silvered (+silver).

Now I’m gonna pause here to elaborate, in the intro questions you ask the hunter “what’s your main prey?” (vampire he says), and “what are their strengths, weaknesses?” (silver he says), so +1 harm from silver to vampires. That means the aforementioned shotgun does 4-harm to anyone and 5-harm to vampires. +1 harm from Deadly move, +Terrible harm from a 10+ on the dice. That’s 6 damage vs anyone, and 7-harm vs vampires!!! Isn’t that a little OP??

I have a question about Factions.

I have a question about Factions.

I have a question about Factions. As my group built the Supernatural Background of Detroit, things didn’t quite end up working along the traditional Faction lines:

Fae are trying to push for a green energy revolution, but are stymied by entrenched demonic forces in the auto industry.

Vampires have two factions, the Old Guard, which has largely been wiped out by The Brood, new, young, feral vamps that don’t give a shit about The Way It’s Always Been.

Wizards are dealing with internal strife, as the Freemasons turned against and started systematically hunting and killing other Wizards.

In each of these cases, these conflicts are WITHIN a faction. Is this going to mess up Faction Moves? If I have a +2 Night, is that +2 with The Brood, or The Old Guard? How can we tell?

So when you meet a complete stranger and want to “put a face to a name”, the MC tells you what Faction the stranger…

So when you meet a complete stranger and want to “put a face to a name”, the MC tells you what Faction the stranger…

So when you meet a complete stranger and want to “put a face to a name”, the MC tells you what Faction the stranger is. So you automatically know at least the Faction? Why? What if the MC wants to keep the players guessing what Faction that stranger is? What if the stranger is pretending to be in a Faction, or wants to lie the PCs about it?

Here’s what I’ve worked up for my current game. This is all setting stuff my group has collaborated to create before the first session next week. I’ll go in and add PC’s and a lot more NPC’s once we’ve got those established. It’s fun to play around with!
