Thinking on my upcoming LA game, I came across this historical person as inspiration for an Immortal PC/NPC. Her name was Florence Lawrence and she is also known as “The First Movie Star”, “Imp Girl” and “The Girl of a Thousand Faces”.

Not only is her life an amazing read (and equally tragic is her death as she faded from fame), so much of it seemed to support the idea of the Immortal:

– there seemed a hint that she was aware she was leaving behind a legacy (the postscript in her suicide note read: “P.S. You’ve all been swell guys. Everything is yours”);

– one of her most famous role was in a movie called “Resurrection” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0001016/;

– her grave was unmarked until 1991; and

– William Mann wrote a novel, The Biograph Girl, about her in which he blends facts with fiction, revealing that a doctor helped Lawrence fool the public into thinking she committed suicide and instead she lives at a nursing home.

Fact is stranger than fiction.

Guys

Guys,

I’m looking for ways to Display the city, from skyscrapers to slums.

So I’m looking for little bits of a scene which I can use to make the city more real. Here is what I got:

– A drunk in the middle of the road

– rats eating leftovers near a fastfood joint

– somebodys puked all over here

– some rednecks looking for a hip club

– homeless girls asking for money

– a dumpster with some very suspicous sounds coming from it

– a movement on a roof – might be a gargoyle? Or a mob sniper?

– sewercovers exploding up

– a bum with his trolley

– a hooker at work

– some b-class starlet making a big scene out of visiting a club

– Some very strange looking guy who wants to wipe your carwindows at the trafficlights

– a huge gathering of cats in a park who “sing” together

Would like your input here – how else can you show the city?

Reading through the book, with Gotham in the hindbrain.

Reading through the book, with Gotham in the hindbrain. I loved that show because all the characters totally cared about their city and wanted it to be something. I can see the show’s best moments when the writers follow the principles (why, yes, the rich orphan and the street thief can totally get together in the same scene, however odd it may seem), and the parts I dislike the most are when Gotham isn’t front and center. Now, I just have to figure out which characters map onto which archetype…

The final Archetype-Avatar brings us to The Vessel.

The final Archetype-Avatar brings us to The Vessel.

Crafted by humankind through magicks and dark rituals, the Vessel is created to serve, entertain and protect. For this choice, I have to go with Jean Claire/Protean from Penny Dreadful.

Jean Claire is so cool! Poetic, self-educated, tortured, and scary as f*$k when pissed off!

I suspect we’ll get some great examples from you on this one. Let me have it! 😀

Archetype-Avatar time again folks.

Today we look at the Scholar. Now I have some personal favourites for this one but I don’t think Marissa Kelly would appreciate me choosing anyone other than Dean Corso from The Ninth Gate. Given that the Scholar is her Archetype, can any of us really argue with that?

Dean is pretty much the best example out there. I welcome other’s though.

Well it’s that time again, Archetype-Avatar of the day time!!!

Today we look at The Immortal! Timeless, scheming and distant.

There can be no clearer choice in my eyes than Dorian Gray, specifically DG from Penny Dreadful: who clearly works hard on the Hedonism Scheme. 😀

Have any other thoughts for this one?
