I’m experiencing rules confusion about the Bond Threshold.

If a character has Bonds equal to their Threshold, then does a Move which adds a point to a Bond, do they have to reduce another Bond to balance it out and keep them from exceeding the Threshold?

If so, does that constitute Burning a Bond, with the requisite problems and benefits?

Question: In the “What I Know” Origin Playbook, the ability “Expert in the Field” says “When you first encounter an important creature, location, or item (your call)…”. Does that mean you have to pick one when you take the playbook and stick with it, or can you use it on the fly when you encounter an important creature, location, or item on an adventure?

Ok, I am loving everything so far and I can’t wait to get my physical copy.

Ok, I am loving everything so far and I can’t wait to get my physical copy.  The only thing that I have an issue with, so far, are the Impossible powers.  On the pregens that I have seen so far, they kinda seem to be all over the place.  Cyclops, for example, has the “See into other dimensions” as his Impossible power.  I don’t see where this came from.  There’s nothing in his other powers to suggest that this is a possibility, so why is it indicated as an impossibility?

The same can be said with Jubilee, her Impossible power is “Immune to telepathy”, but there’s nothing there that would make me think she would be.

I don’t see anything in the book about the best/suggested way to choose the Impossible powers but my gut says that they should be something that may be implied extensions of what has been established by the previous powers in their profile.  Am I wrong in that?

So as a thank you for how well things are going I was hoping to run a game for up to five players via Hangouts.

The game will be Monday nights from 10 to 12 or 1 CST. It will be set in the upcoming New Avalon setting and will consist of at least four sessions perhaps more.

Heard it through the grapevine that there might be some leftover hard copies.

Heard it through the grapevine that there might be some leftover hard copies. Due to my endless regret in missing the kickstarter, how would I go about procuring such a thing?

Two not so simple questions/ clarifications:

1. A character design like the Hulk decides to try a take-down by essentially punching someone in the face (Smash) – how would you differentiate that from a scenario where say Luke Cage does the same thing? Both would emphasize Smash, both have super strength, but the Hulk is far stronger. If I’m tracking right they each have the same chance to do the same amount of Conditions/ damage. Is it purely the fiction?

2. I understand circumstances where a villain has something which simply prevents the heroes from being effective and therefore forces them to approach things differently rather than brute force. Flame attacks won’t work on a fire elemental, fists go right through an insubstantial ghost, etc… What about an adversary who is all about skill/ prowess? I’m thinking of things like the battles with the Winter Soldier in the last (and oh so awesome) Captain America movie. There is no absolute fiction about the Winter Solider that says Cap cannot take him down – they are evenly matched. How woud you make such an adversary a tough fight, while remaining true to the fiction?

Is WIP a good match for low power / street level heroes? (I still have Netflix Daredevil in mind)

Situation:

My group consists of a very few players, two PCs and myself. One of my players has a character that I often found a little problematic in terms of balancing due to the wide scope of her power set.

Specifically:

She is from another dimension where she’s basically a medieval, magical, cop. She was very talented in her home dimension and such was in Special Ops (so to speak) and that dimension has a lot of magical stuff going on. Namely that everyone is born with a manifest spirit companion that shows your life experience in it’s personality and appearance. She is also in possession of life manipulation powers / as she was gifted with this at birth and honed it over many years of training. So she can heal wounds by manipulating her life energy and that of those around her.

Short Story:

She really pissed off an evil tyrant and he banished her from her home dimension to our worlds dystopian future.

The Issue:

On her character sheet she has Heal Wounds in Difficult powers and Bring Someone Back from the Dead in Impossible. I know that having the power Heal Wounds makes it possible for her to just heal physical wounds as long as she spends some time doing it. Since it’s Difficult it’s not something she can do without concerted concentration and effort.

The Question:

In order for the Conditions mechanic to stick, should I switch what I’m giving her conditions for?

Clarification:

I’m wondering if I should narrate physical injuries happening, but, since they’re not really consequential for our characters (unless they’re life threatening and Critical) given that they’ve got a dedicated Healer in the group, I’m wondering if it would be a good idea to switch my Conditions from things like “Broken Wrist” and “Punctured Lung” over to things like “Shaken Courage” and “Doubting my Philosophy.”

In this way there wouldn’t even be a question about whether or not she could heal it away, and it makes a lot of sense to me that she would be able to Fit In to make those conditions go away.

Thoughts?

I know you’re probably watching this community like a hawk right now anyway Kyle Simons, but I’m tagging you in anyway. 🙂
