Is there a problem if players come to a point in roleplay just around the table, decide that its a moment where bonds should be adjusted downward, and then bank that bonus for a future roll?

Ive seen this happen in other games, while I deal with one or two players for a few minutes, others at the table will amuse themselves with roleplayed conversations or planning that become character arguments or pats on the back (in Worlds, boosting there bonds maybe if they have spare slots)

What do people think?

Two players and their characters in our group are already pursuing world changing projects, but neither are looking to do so via science (establishing a world wide organization and a communications network in their cases).

So a friend and I decided to design a Drive book to fit in for projects that are not explicitly ‘Science’ as the Drive book “Push the Boundaries of Science” already covers all things ‘Science’.

This is what we thought up and would like your review, comments and criticisms.

Doomsday Clock

Book available to open when:

-You start to create a project or organization that will change the world.

Discuss your project with the EIC, and write down a list of probable milestones that need to be completed for the project to work, as well as the project itself. The EIC will tell you a Threshold, based on how large the Project is. Take a Bond with the Project. Bonds with your Project cannot be Burned and do not affect your Bond Threshold. Every time you reach a milestone in your Project, increase your Bond with the Project by 1. When your Bond with the Project reaches its’ Threshold, your Project is completed.

Acceptable Losses:

You may burn 2 bonds with any single entity to gain the benefit of burning a bound but after you roll, instead of before.

Move available when:

You burn a Bond to fulfill a Milestone.

Witness the Power:

Remove one Impossible move or add one Possible to your character sheet.

Move available when:

You are over half way finished your Project

Question, what are the full range of attributes, is -1 the lowest or can there be -2 and -3 ranked attributes as well? I don’t recall noticing that info in teh book, only the maximums of +3.

Thanks

Being still somewhat new to this particular style of narration gaming I was wandering quite how people built scenes, And how they rated them.

For example, do people think it is okay (generally) to spring a scene on the group, including the players in questions (let’s say we’re looking in on an ad-hoc avengers team having a bit of down time mid adventure, among the team are Moon Knight and Black Widow), that’s worded something like…

“As your resting Your shocked when Moon Knight (staring at the player for moon knight to make it clear it is the character) jumps up, and screams “Your filth, I know you. You were there (indicating Black Widow’s player) you let those people die! Just as suddenly Moon Knight slumps back into his chair, the silence in the room as quiet as the confused look on his masked face is clear…”

Of course the Black Widow does have a ‘secret’ limitation connected to some dark event. While no one is yet aware that Moon Knight has multiple personalities. The idea is then to let the players run with the scene.

Also if this is an okay way to run a scene would this be a soft or hard move in people’s minds?

Question, if I am making a setting for WiP and I have hero npcs do I make them like you do a villain or like a PC with bonds and all so a player could potentially use the npc hero.

If they are made like a PC how do I create a number of bonds when I dont have a player group as a base? Does that make sense. ..

I’ve gotten a little bit of a rundown about this elsewhere, but I’m still a bit confused about powers profile and difficulties.

What differentiates a simple and difficult ability? And when can a player use borderline?

It seems limiting enough that they have to Push (and thus take conditions most of the time) to use abilities in their summary that are not on the profile. Having things in the profile seems, to me, that they should be pretty much automatic, and I can’t find rules that say they are not (though I’ll admit that I may have missed it).

So, what’s the difference between the difficult levels as they occur in play?

Here’s an example:

Powers Summary: super strength, invulnerability, expert wrestler, frightening appearance.

Simple: scare people with an intimidating stare.

Difficult: punch someone with deadly force.

Borderline: lift/throw large objects.

Possible: lift objects weighing 50 tons.

Impossible: lift objects weighing in excess of 50 tons.

He obviously has to push to be invulnerable (which I’m still trying to get my head around) or any advanced wrestling techniques. But what does he have to do to “punch someone with deadly force”? That seems like it’s already covered in the Take Down move anyway.

Sorry if this has been covered (and that I brought up two different issues, kinda), but I’m still suffering some cognitive dissonance between the idea that you can do whatever you have listed in your power summary, and then reading that you have to Push to do so (which is why I have a hard time grasping that bit about the invulnerability – the text says that he’s justified in being invulnerable, but if he wants to do some sort of advanced wrestling maneuver he’s not justified in just saying so?).

I’m confused regarding defensive powers.

I’m confused regarding defensive powers.

I’m confused regarding defensive powers.

Where the confusion comes in is on a “what’s the point” level.

If a player wants to create a character who’s sole power is being super tough, and then have some skills to round out what they can do, I feel like they would not be happy with how that works out in play because, to my understanding, player defensive powers can’t modify/ignore incoming damage the way villains can.

Meaning: mechanically, there seems to be little point in mentioning it at all. (I understand the fiction behind it changes that, but I have mechanical minded players and that would be a tough sale.)

Any insight into what I’m missing?
