I’ve posted these before individually, but I’m looking for more feedback on some moves. They’re all for a teenage witch themed hack, inspired by The Secret Circle. All the characters are witches and the Skins focus more on high school archetypes; the loner, the rebel, the popular kid, etc.

Everyone has access to this move:

Weave Magic

When you weave magic into a mundane action, you perform extremely well or achieve more than you would normally. (If you would roll for a move, roll 1d6+1d8 instead of rolling 2d6.) Then choose one:

– it took more out of you than expected, gain the Condition drained;

– your actions attract immediate and unwanted attention;

– the Powers take a String on you.

These move are for The Loner Skin:

Disinterested

Whenever you stand by and just watch rather than get involved in something that should, or does concern you, everyone who is involved loses a String on you.

Dispassionate

Whenever you act with obvious emotion, whomever caused the reaction, and any observers, take a String on you.

This move is for The Outsider Skin:

Perfect Words

When you lock eyes with someone to know what they’re feeling, roll with Dark. On a 10 up, hold 3 and on a 7-9, you both hold 1. During the scene, you can spend your hold one-for one to ask the following questions, player to player:

– What is your character thinking right now?

– What can I say to make your character feel better?

– What can I say to hurt your character?

Players must answer honestly, and take +1 forward while acting on the answers.

This move is for The Reckless Skin (not satisfied with that name):

Sexy Dangerous

When you impress someone with an act of destruction, violence, or bravado, chose one of the options below, then roll to turn them on with Volatile.

– you accidentally injure someone nearby;

– you cause more collateral damage than intended;

– you suffer 1 harm;

– you gain the condition reckless.

These moves are for The Passionate Skin (again, probably change the name of this one):

Up For the Challenge

When you turn someone on who everyone knows is in a relationship, on a 10 up, take a String on their partner as well. On a 7-9, add this option to the list: they give you a String on their partner.

Honeyed Words

When you converse with someone in an attempt to dig up dirt on them, roll with Hot. On a 7+, they tell you something about themselves they wish they hadn’t. On a 10 up, give them the Condition secretly under [your name]’s thumb.

Again, feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. 🙂

So do people’s character’s have jobs?

So do people’s character’s have jobs?

So do people’s character’s have jobs? My Mortal started out with one, as I imagined her family wasn’t well off and she needed to help mom make ends meet.

I’m asking because being torn between friends and the responsibility of work seems great for causing drama. However there’s only so many times you can ditch work before you get fired (my Mortal actually got fired in our first session and is looking for a new job), but being at work takes you out of the action.

Thoughts on balancing what I thought would be a good source of drama?

Giant Swarm of Cockroaches

Giant Swarm of Cockroaches

Giant Swarm of Cockroaches

Kumiko slid the door open, playing her flashlight around the dusty bedroom. The circle of weak light revealed the same brittle, yellowed tatami mats as in the apartments below. She stepped inside and something near the balcony doors by the far wall moved. Her light swung towards it. A cockroach, disturbed by her entrance, was descending the wall, a shiny ocher blot on the peeling white paper. Kumiko panned the light up towards the darkened corner and froze. The ceiling above her was a glittering mass of chitinous bodies and twitching antenna. They turned in unison, rustled their wings, and dropped like a hard, brown rain.

Minions:

Renfield (to push victims towards the monster)

Powers:

– can climb any surface and squeeze through tiny cracks

– can survive without air for 45 minutes and without food for months

– can make surprisingly intelligent swarm decisions

Weakness:

– avoids bright light

– deterred by baking soda, mint, and diatomaceous earth

Attacks:

– None, but see below

Armor:

– None

Harm Capacity:

– 10 harm will completely eliminate the swarm. Weapons or attacks without the area tag only do 1-harm.

When the swarm surrounds you, roll + Cool. On a 10+, the sound of crunching roaches beneath your feet is gross, but you’re fine. On a 7-9, choose one: leave the swarm by the shortest possible route right now (the Keeper will say what that is) or take -1 forward until you can get clear of the swarm.

When the swarm blocks your mouth and nose, choose one: drop what you’re holding to get them off your face, or start holding your breath. Holding your breath is Acting Under Pressure but with Tough instead of Cool.

A quick  minion I whipped up, though I’m not sure what monster it’d work for. Based on recent (but exaggerated) events.

If you don’t already know about these, I highly recommend Topher Gerkey’s Skins for the Skinless.

If you don’t already know about these, I highly recommend Topher Gerkey’s Skins for the Skinless. They’re awesome, and Topher is one of the people who inspired me to try making my own Skins. They are Pay What You Want, but for Skins this good, the suggested price of $5 is a steal.

Howdy everyone.

Howdy everyone.

Howdy everyone. We started a new game today I jumped at the chance to finally play the Mortal, a Skin I’ve been wanting to try for a long time. I had fun, but found it way more difficult than I expected. I’m used to playing my characters as being in charge of their own destinies and standing up for themselves. Which is exactly what the Mortal isn’t, and why I wanted to try playing it.

So I’m looking for stories of how other people have played The Mortal. I don’t mean alternate takes on the Skin mind, just stories of how you’ve played the “normal” Mortal in a game. Thanks. 😀

Hi all.

Hi all.

Hi all. I’m trying to grok WWWRPG and things aren’t going so well. I consider myself decently experienced with PbtA games, and I’m not really having trouble with the rules. What I lack is experience with and exposure to professional wrestling. I have no “reality” to see what these moves are modeling, and so am unsure how everything fits together.

So help a complete wrestling newbie out. Are there some YouTube links to “classic” matches, so I can see how everything hangs together? Thanks. 🙂

Well, here it is.

Well, here it is.

Well, here it is. Just before the end of the month, the first of my 12 Chinese Zodiac inspired Skins. I give you The Rat.

I’m not entirely happy with it, but I have to move on and start working on next month’s Skin. Maybe I’ll come back and tweak at the end of the year.

I’m completely stumped on the Darkest Self and still haven’t finished (or started) the front page flavor text, but here is the beta version of my first Chinese Zodiac Skin: The Rat.

I figured I’d put it up a day early and spend the next week gathering feedback (hopefully) and writing the missing pieces. There will also be an awesome character illustration by A.C. Galaga on the final version. I’m aiming to release that the last week of the month.
