Quick question as I sit here preparing to run some Worlds in Peril at Conception here in the UK this week.

In the rather awesome comic Saudade sweeps both Cereberus & Kannon aside after some bad dice rolling. My question is, is this simply the fact both rolling badly, or is it a move that Saudade has that the low rolls allow the EiC to trigger?

A cheeky ask, any chance to see her and the snipers ‘sheets’ 🙂 ?

Hi all

Hi all

Hi all

Quick question about characters and limits that I think im getting wrong,

Just preparing some pregens for a run at the upcoming Wyntercon here in the UK and I think im missreading the rules on defining powers.

Taking Iconic below, an ordinary women who gains superpowers she has two major things that effect her life

1. She now contantly generates a low level static field effecting any one she touches

2. That pesky battle between responsibility of power and upcoming eal life events, like a marriage

As it stands I have rated these separately, one as almost impossible and the other fequently difficult. But as I go over the other characters here and the latest PDF is the actual intention that you look at them as a whole?

So in the case of Iconic, both of these earn her only the “Almost Impossible, Bonds and extra powers

Here is the Iconic, although depending on the answer above I may well have to regig a few bits.

YOUR STORY SO FAR:

It had been going well for Susie and Stephen. Their relationship rapidly heading in good directions. That afternoon, they’d enjoyed Kew and then found a spot in the new picnic grounds in Battersea Power station. The storm came in unexpectedly but with just enough warning that most people had time to pack away and start to move before the first strike of lightning hit the

ground, drawing everyone’s attention, as it seemed to leap from the sky down one of the remaining chimneys and out into the picnic area.

While a lot of people suffered minor burns, 3 bore the brunt of the blast. Stephen and Susie suffered 3rd degree burns and Stephen was knocked into a coma for a week. The third was a 14

year old boy, no one has ever come forward to claim him and while he survives unaided, he is still in a coma.

When Stephen came to, they noted an increase in static around him and Susie. Also that both healed amazingly quickly. But nothing to trigger any major alarms and so our story seems to draw to a close, wedding bells on the a wind tinged with sadness.

Or so it seems, except a few weeks later a figure clothed in electricity stopped an armoured car robbery outside of Battersea Park with Battersea Power station as a backdrop. Then a few weeks later she appeared again. Stopping another heist with the London Eye as a backdrop. When the figure appeared again, with Trafalgar Square as a backdrop, stopping an assassination, the press had enough to choose their own name for the nameless, calling the figure, Iconic. The name stuck, much to

Susie’s bemusement. She’d never meant to get involved. She had discovered her powers by accident, and out of a sense of responsibility had gotten involved. It all started because Susie had returned to Battersea looking for answers, the other two times that the press focused on had been rather cut short dates. Although actually Iconic had acted on several more occasions.

Stephen has so far forgiven Susie’s slightly odd behaviour since the accident. Admitting that he to has felt ‘out of sorts’ himself.

Is there a problem if players come to a point in roleplay just around the table, decide that its a moment where bonds should be adjusted downward, and then bank that bonus for a future roll?

Ive seen this happen in other games, while I deal with one or two players for a few minutes, others at the table will amuse themselves with roleplayed conversations or planning that become character arguments or pats on the back (in Worlds, boosting there bonds maybe if they have spare slots)

What do people think?

Being still somewhat new to this particular style of narration gaming I was wandering quite how people built scenes, And how they rated them.

For example, do people think it is okay (generally) to spring a scene on the group, including the players in questions (let’s say we’re looking in on an ad-hoc avengers team having a bit of down time mid adventure, among the team are Moon Knight and Black Widow), that’s worded something like…

“As your resting Your shocked when Moon Knight (staring at the player for moon knight to make it clear it is the character) jumps up, and screams “Your filth, I know you. You were there (indicating Black Widow’s player) you let those people die! Just as suddenly Moon Knight slumps back into his chair, the silence in the room as quiet as the confused look on his masked face is clear…”

Of course the Black Widow does have a ‘secret’ limitation connected to some dark event. While no one is yet aware that Moon Knight has multiple personalities. The idea is then to let the players run with the scene.

Also if this is an okay way to run a scene would this be a soft or hard move in people’s minds?

Im going to Wyntercon in the UK at the end of October and hoping to run a game at least of WIP (fingers crossed with the actual pdf 😉 ) and I was hoping someone  wouldn’t mind having a look over some of  what i’m putting together to make sure im still on the right track.

First up is one of the first Villains (yep stealing quite happily from some of my favorite villains for the game. Although they’ll be twists to make them my own when creativity takes me.), a favorite of mine because he’s just a good old fashioned villain.

This is The Wrecker from before the team, Dirk has just gained the power . I’m using him in the game as a way for the table to get a feel for the game and there characters, but in no way is he going to be a pushover.

The Wrecker

Dirk Garthwaite

Type: heavy Hitter

Motivation: Power and Money

Appearance: tall and Muscular man with square features and an intimidating stance.

Character: Prone to outbursts of violence, he is otherwise a very straight forward personality.

Conditions: heroes x2

Powers:

[A] Accidentally enchanted Crowbar [4]

(He must be holding it, if he loses it he immediately takes the conditions as weakened or / & loss of power)

*Powers of an Asgardian demi God

–Near Godlike strength

–resistant  to temperature Extremes [2]

–tough as a demi god [2]

–Invulnerable to harm from a normal mans attack

*Ameuteur Wrestler

–you cant hold me!

–ill crush you!

Im new to Apocalypse world but love what i’m seeing.

Although I do have a couple of hopefully not too silly questions.

1. Advantages for PC’s.

From what i’m reading this is how you intend to handle the Batmen, Black Widows & Hawkeyes of comicness. Normal people with gadgets, but I can’t find anything that actually explains “mechanically” how a starting character would start with them or how / if they differ (I’m thinking since they come with a built in “easy to remove from player” they automatically bestow a “bond” point?)

2. Powers & Bond Points

I’m slightly confused about how these build up in character generation, and the chart on page 19.

Assuming I have 2 PC’s (say Black Widow & Quicksilver to use 2 known quantities)

Both begin with 3 bonds

(For brevity’s sake I’m not doing a full run down and ignoring advantages for now)

– BLACK WIDOW –

The idea is to create a very normal human but exceptionally resourceful (using Bond points)

POWER: Even Bond didn’t have these toys

POWER: Tactical, acrobatic martial artist

:simple: The Widows multipurpose Spy Bracelets

(Equipment thats difficult to remove)

(may not inflict critical conditions)

:difficult: The Queen of Manipulation

(Must be able to either speak or be seen)

(can not inflict critical conditions unless she can both be seen & heard)

:borderline: I can keep up with anyone, even aliens

(Still only a well trained Olympic athlete)

(gains minor condition ‘tired, need a moment ‘ after trying to keep up with a super powered being)

– QUICKSILVER –

The idea is to create a very simple to play character

POWER: Super fast movement

POWER: Mutant Physique

:simple: Accelerated movement

(loses speed and control if he has no surface to run on)

:difficult: I run fast enough to cause Cyclones

:borderline: I can fly like a helicopter if I spin at super speeds

——————————–

So does this mean that

Black Widow has 3+6 = 9 Bonds & a bond threshold of 9

Quicksilver has 3+1 = 4 bonds & a bond threshold of 4

Using the chart on page 18, Quicksilver using his one extra bond to gain

:simple: rapid fire fist barrage

Then MUST spend the remaining bonds and can not have any more bonds added until he spends experience.

Black Widow 1

Mutant community 1

Wanda Maximoff(NPC) 1

Meanwhile the Black Widow decides a big part of her character is knowing people so..

She takes the required

Quicksilver 1

Russian spy networks 2

New York 1

Then takes:

Lawyer Matt Murdock 2

SHIELD agency 2

‘Insert Superhero team’ 1

Hope that makes sense, sorry it became a bit long.
