Gearing up to run a game of US on Twitch pretty soon, set in New Orleans because we like to cop out when we pick cities.

Anywho, I’ve been trying to come up with some good city moves. So far, I’ve sketched out these two:

* Disgorge a ghost from the terrible past.

* Raise The floodwaters when a Storm hits.

I feel like I need one more, and I don’t know whether or not the two I’ve got actually work. Suggestions?

  1. Yeah, the second one was the easiest. The first is really about how New Orleans was the biggest slave market in the US by 1840. I think it’s an important enough element of the city – since most of the memorable parts of it were built on the backs of human lives – that one of the city’s moves needed to address it.

  2. Yay! New Orleans is the best. MadJay Brown has run some really awesome games in that city. He probably has some good ideas.

As for the moves themselves, I think the first one is perfect. It’s clear, it’s actionable, and it invokes what makes NOLA different from say… Phoenix or Orlando. Nice work!

The second move is really conditional. You’ve got to already have a Storm, it has to hit… that’s a lot. Maybe it could be something like:

    – raise the floodwaters of an impending Storm

  3. Thanks. Mark Diaz Truman. That was actually my first instinct, I just have a tendency to second-guess that stuff.

For a third move, just because I like to have some options, I was considering something dealing with loud celebrations. Something along the lines of:

    – reveal the city’s heart with a raucous celebration
