Our pack is not native English speakers. We are Polish. This makes some translation issues.
In US there is a move for mislead, trick and distract. Distraction does not generate any translation issue but mislead and trick means pretty the same thing in Polish or very similar one. Moreover there can be a few translation. Also english dictionary definition does not clarify the thing.
I would appreciate if you could give me clear example of when mislead kicks in and when trick. Understanding this is essential for Tainted – Don’t look at me and Fae – In our Blood.
Sorry for being dumb but we had conversation about this and i feel that we are missing something. Please help!
They’re pretty similar in English, too.
When you mislead someone, you’re basically letting them draw conclusions you know are wrong. It’s not really a lie. Like saying “oh you want $5000? Come into this other room” – you never really said there was $5000 in the other room!
When you trick them it’s more of a direct lie. “The $5000 is right through that door, go on in!”
I don’t know if the distinction is really all that important in play.
Mislead and trick are actually synonyms. So, nuance-wise, I would say that to mislead someone would be to speak in a way that is not a lie, but is missing information. You could also say it’s a lie through omission. Someone can be misleading on purpose, or on accident sometimes, if the information they leave out is forgotten, or they leave the information out because it’s difficult to talk about.
Example: You tell someone that the item they’re looking for is in the next room. What you don’t tell them is that you mean the room behind the hidden door, not the one through the plainly visible doorway. You have technically told the truth, but hidden information in such a way that they would have difficulty coming to the right answer.
A trick has a connotation of being much more deliberate. You absolutely have deliberately lied to someone to position them in such a way that something bad happens to them, or so that they give something up to you that they might not otherwise have done.
Example: You tell someone that the item they’re looking for is in the next room. What you don’t tell them is that the item is being held by a large, angry troll who thinks they’re trying to steal it. You have tricked them into a confrontation with the troll.

Kelley Vanda Yes thank you. I think the point is no to straight up lie. That is why Fea have this move to Mislead with Heart, because Fea should not lie. They can mislead in a way to avoid corruption. Now i see the purpose of distinguishing between these two. Thanks for help.
