Just got my PDF of the deck of villany, actual deck still in route, is there anything like this for the heroes of Halcyon? I know there are two Huma and a Mantis. Not that I can’t just make my own heroes, but I like a good mix when I run a premade setting.

Hi gang, finally getting Masks to the table. I have the playbooks, reference sheets, moves all printed out.

We have 6-8 hours (a full day!) I plan to run through character creation, and then throw them into the action – something classic – a robbery, or hostages at the mall, etc.

My players are a mix of D&D player, Anime fan who loves the idea of RPG but hasn’t yet tried it, and two guys who can help me drive the story with their role playing and thinking.

Anything I should keep and eye out for with respect to common mistakes, or issues? I’ve GM’d lots of Fate, and a fair amount of Dungeon World. I’m trying to make notes like “A second Influence on a PC allows labels to shift” and “Whenever a PC misses, make a GM move”.

Thanks in advance.

Soooo I know playing adults is outside the scope of Masks as written, but suppose one wanted to do it anyway?

Soooo I know playing adults is outside the scope of Masks as written, but suppose one wanted to do it anyway? Start play with characters as undeveloped teens, and end with them as (nominal) adults with access to adult moves, some locked labels etc. How would you do it? What, if anything, would need to be changed?

Hello all

Hello all

Hello all,

I play and run games for various groups, and one of my groups is somewhat interested in playing Masks. The thing that makes it a harder game to run is the playbooks that have relationship status that deal with having feelings for another character like the Doomed’s “I want to kiss _ before I die” and such.

For various reasons with this group, PC on PC romance is an option that is uncomfortable and therefore a complete no go.

Have any of you guys made alternate questions that would remedy this problem? What would you suggest?

I feel like I am missing something, but a “Find” in the PDF is not turning it up. But just to make sure…

In Masks, Relationships have no specific mechanical interaction with the game, right? They are mentioned a number of times in the GM section, and I totally get their importance, but there is no equivalent of the Dungeon World “+Bonds” in the Aid and Interfere move, right?

I ask because I am in a situation where I will bringing in a PC in the 2nd session, after creation. I’m trying to decide whether I should “retcon” and back off the relationship assignments we made in the 1st session (because I didn’t have the presence of mind to think about it then), or if I can, at the end of the 2nd session, just have the new character fill in their two blanks and assign influence as normal.

I was recently thinking…music…it’s not a someone but it is a something that could hold influence over characters, enough that, in the right circumstances, to tell them who they are or who they should be.

This could happen when the music presents itself in the right situation, such as if the characters go to a concert or if they end up listening to a particular piece when they’re feeling particularly vulnerable.

I don’t think this would trigger during everyday listening, such as hearing something on the radio or plugging into an iPod.

* Classical: Could shift Superior up and Freak down

* Metal: Could shift Danger up and Mundane down

And so on…

Or, one could focus on the particular song.

Just a thought, take from it what you will.
