Hi all; I’m new to MotW and am looking to clarify a few things before I start my sessions next week. If I’m asking in the wrong place, let me know. Otherwise, I’ll get my first question out of the way:

One aspect of combat has me a bit puzzled: It seems when a PC Kicks Some Ass on a monster, the monster more or less is able to inflict its normal damage right back at the PC, no “answering” roll necessary. So, in the most basic, or crudest sense we’d be looking at a situation like this: Theoretically, a monster with 14 harm and +2 harm per hit vs. a hunter with 7 harm and +2 harm per hit would always end up killing the hunters.

I’ve got to be missing something. Do monsters ALWAYS do their damage when a PC is Kicking Some Ass, or is it only during certain circumstances? Certainly the PC’s can’t have to rely on their Luck ALL the time…?

I have one doubt regarding the following move in The Professional playbook:

Bottle It Up: If you want, you can take up to +3

bonus when you act under pressure. For each +1

you use, the Keeper holds 1. That hold can be spent

later—one for one—to give you -1 on any move

except act under pressure.

Is there any limitation on the use? Can be used several times per session? Is the maximum penalty to later moves limited to -1?

For me it seems a bit OP.

Any thougths on this?

Currently: I am doing the last few bits of editing, waiting on some art, and then we will go to layout & final version. I won’t mention a date because that would bring down a curse, but soon!

What: Planning on print on demand and PDF via Drivethrurpg.

It will include:

– Rules for Weird Phenomena mysteries (i.e. more Fringe/X Files than Supernatural/Buffy)

– Alternative basic weird moves for your hunters (i.e. to swap in for “use magic” if you want a variety of weird hunters or to make your game less magic-focused)

– Two new hunter classes: The Hex (witchy magic user) and Pararomantic (lover of a monster).

– A bunch of advice articles from different people about a range of topics (making gothic mysteries, using pop culture, playing games in the office, spellbooks, etc)

– Loads of mysteries you can use in your game from all different authors and in all sorts of styles. (I don’t have the exact count available here, but it’s more than twenty).

Who: I wrote the new rules, everything else is other people (many of whom you will find on this community, such as Mark Tygart who got it all started).

You can have a look at the draft of the weirdness rules over on my website: https://genericgames.co.nz/files/MotW_more_weirdness.pdf (It’s cleaned up a lot but the basics are the same as the draft)

this is “the start of” a “work in progress” but I do not want to continue on it without your permission.

the idea here is to create an active repository for custom content for MotW, and build a platform for Keepers to share ideas and communicate. The G+ community is great, but I am hoping to build something more useful with the ability for Keepers to Collaborate, Peer Review and rate custom content.

All Keepers, if Michael Ok’s my continued development of Keepers Fellowship, let me know if you are interested in participation. input on the design of the site is welcome.

NOTE this is the STATIC HTML base design. today I installed the active site framework and database, this coming weekend I will begin work on the membership and resource repository components.

Can anyone recommend their favorite name generator?

I’m looking for one that allows you to generate modern (for MotW), si-fi (for Uncharted Worlds), and/or fantasy (for Dungeon World). The last to are for when I try those games out.

I’d like to see a lot of names that I can copy into a word DOC, print out, and refer to during my upcoming attempt to run a MotW game.
