Well that’s a shame.

Well that’s a shame.

My first MotW game has been canned, even before the first session of play. Big differences between how a couple of players saw the game and how I saw the game. They turned up to the first session with fully formed character concepts, a slasher movie monster and a fairy. While I’m sure that a game with these in could be fun, it wasn’t what I wanted to run. Didn’t want to do it, but I had to cancel the game and tell them someone else will have to run. I couldn’t muster any enthusiasm for what the game was becoming.

Which is a shame as u was really looking forward to run it next week. Guess I’ll just have to keep looking for an online game to get my fix.

couldn’t believe that having the old MOTW means I get the new shiny version!

this is coming back to my table! some of my players have never played MOTW, not even played a *world game!

cant wait

(need to go steal some stuff from the S.T.A.M.P. files)

This never occurred to me before, but if the Keeper wanted the source of badness in a mystery to be a mystical artifact of some sort, would they write it up as a ‘Monster’ in their prep?

How can I play a vampire and werewolf in the same game? I gues I can use “Monstrous” only once, right?

In some places, the 2nd edition mentions marking experience when you roll a highlighted stat.

In some places, the 2nd edition mentions marking experience when you roll a highlighted stat. In some places it mentions mark experience when you roll a 6-. I don’t think the text ever has the two together, so I kinda get the impression that it may be a rules change that didn’t get fully propagated through the book. Do they both apply, or only one? I’m inclined to only use the 6- (and of course, the moves that mark experience and the end of session awards).

I’ve been thinking about what sorts of extra Monster of the Week stuff people might be interested in, with the new edition now out.

One idea is to develop setting expansions that include:

– new hunter types appropriate for the setting, and details on translating the existing hunters.

– setting information and ideas for how to use it.

– what Monster of the Week assumptions are changed and the effects that has.

– monsters from the setting.

– possibly a starting mystery or two.

Let me know which sounds coolest, and feel free to chime in with more ideas!

Kiwis does anyone want to go in and share shipping cost on the new edition?

Come on over to my post for the Q&A going on in the comments. :)

Monster of the Week is live and ready to buy! (I’ll have it up on DriveThruRPG in a bit.)

http://www.evilhat.com/home/monster-of-the-week/ (click “buy now” to hop over to the purchase options on the Evil Hat webstore)

Folks who bought a PDF-inclusive version previously will be sent a discount coupon for DriveThruRPG if you’re just looking to update your PDF.

No word yet as far as whether that applies for folks who got the previous edition in a steeply-discounted bundle; that’s up to Generic Games (Michael Sands) to decide…

… though I certainly think if you got the prior edition super-cheap, re-buying the new shiny PDF shouldn’t be that much of a problem. It’s worth it! Lots of new art, new content, and revised rules.

Plus, hey, we’d like the new edition to cover its costs. 🙂
