Say you’re starting a MotW campaign and every session will be a totally different monster with little or no repeating. How do you handle the Wronged since their selected monster won’t come up repeatedly? I have a couple thoughts but I’m wondering what other people have done.

I just cut a little monster-hunting short film (2 mins). Thought people might enjoy it.

Got to run MoTW at Origins games on demand! Total virgins to the wonderful world of World games and the all dived in like pros. Everyone had a good time. It was close and at the end the spooky almost sold her soul for endless power but the monster was destroyed and the world was saved.

Last night I ran a game to introduce a new group to #Monsteroftheweek  and used the Clootie from Book of Unremitting Horror.  The letter written by a little girl in this book practically handed me the mystery. What resources do you use for inspiration? I’ve used creepypasta, mythical creature wikis, monster tropes, and urban legends, but I hadn’t thought of looking through another RPG book of monsters until yesterday.

I used this unhappy fellow in last night’s “one shot” of Monster of the Week.  I put one shot in quotes because the group decided that they liked their hunters and this game so much that they would like to keep playing.  I only meant to introduce them, not start up a new campaign.  Not a problem though, it was fun!  I had a blast.

Monster is the Clootie from Book of Unremitting Horror

So, I realized that this monster might be fun to stat up, since I’ve always got Doctor Who on the mind…a little rough, I’m sure, but fun. Not sold on the weakness, either.

Silent

Type: Queen (motivation–to possess and control)

Powers: Actively erased from memories (after the person looks away). Energy absorption/release. Mental suggestion.

Weaknesses: Subconsciously-commanded enemies.

Attacks: Disintegrate Ray (5-harm close magic)

Armor: 0

Harm capacity: 8-harm will kill it

Custom Move: Silent Words

When you encounter the Silent, roll +Cool.

On a 10+, make another move.

On a 7-9, choose one of the following: you’re aware something’s wrong, the Silent doesn’t manipulate you (see below), you don’t act under pressure.

If the Silent “manipulates” you, you mark XP if you do what the Keeper asks you to do.

Did not look too hard but could not find a moves sheet so I made one to give to my players.

Ok, here is the newest version of the Time Lord playbook.

Ok, here is the newest version of the Time Lord playbook. I’ll be running an adventure with it next weekend. Any comments or playtest feedback would be awesome. Note, the Time Lord does not begin play with any weapons, so I’m not sure it is a good pick for just any adventure. That could probably be changed. It’s a work in progress.

So, I’m thinking of running a MotW game set in mid-18th century England.

So, I’m thinking of running a MotW game set in mid-18th century England.  On a cursory skim, I don’t see a whole lot of changes I need to make to the playbooks.  Obviously gear needs to be changed, but its pretty straight forward to swap out “.38” for “flintlock pistol”, “sawed-off shotgun” for “blunderbus”, “hunting rifle” for “fowling piece”, or even “beat up car” for “unfashionable carriage and team”.

Anyone think of any big conversion needs I’m overlooking?
