So I finally got around to making my custom binding for Monster of the Week and I thought this would be a good place to share. Sadly I don’t have the best set up for taking photos and the cover is really dark so this is the best shot I could do. if want to see other attempts you can check out my flicker. http://www.flickr.com/photos/46326225@N00/

For anyone heading to Origins I will be helping out the Games on Demand group and I will be offering MoTW as an available option. I have three mysteries specked out which I will share after the con. I will officially be on the evening shift each night but most likely will be available throughout the day to run as needed.

Greetings, Hunters & Keepers of Mysteries.

I’ll be running Monster of the Week this Saturday morning at KublaCon in San Francisco, CA. Its a great convention for roleplaying  games and a bunch of other related hobbies. Private game rooms as well as huge open gaming. I’m stoked.

I’m gonna have a set or two of mysteries ready to share at some point. It would be great to trade or collect them. I really like the mystery creation process for Monster of the Week. Doom clocks FTW!

Mostly I guess I’m letting you know MotW is getting some love in California. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hello folks.

Hello folks.

Hello folks. I’m a great fan of Monster of the Week and wish I could find more fans of the game. I find Monster of the Week caters more to my style of play and while Monsterhearts has some interesting concepts, I find MOTW to be a superior game in many respects. I have only run the game twice thus far, once over OpenRPG and once at a gaming convention. I had good fun with the game and hope to have a chance to play it in the future. Good to see a fan base building up for this great game.

I was a dingbat and didn’t think to put this up here earlier, but I can do it now!

I was a dingbat and didn’t think to put this up here earlier, but I can do it now! I ran Monster of the Week for Indie+ — it was pretty fun! Our Divine went to Hell for a bit and had a chat with Satan!

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!  I am running Monster of the Week for ConTessa (a free online gaming convention ran by women for EVERYONE).  I have my minimum of 3 hunters, but I can take 2 more (or additional alternate spots in case someone drops out)!

There are monsters out there.

Most people don’t believe in them, but they’re real. Mostly, when someone finds out that monsters are real, that’s just before they die.

But some people are mean enough, smart enough, crazy enough, or hurt enough, that they live. And some of those people go and hunt down more.

That’s who you are – someone who decided to go on a crusade against the evil critters that are scurrying around out there.

It could be that you make a stand and defend your hometown from everything evil that comes there.  It could be you take to the road and go find them.  It could be you have magic powers that help out.  It could be that your name came up in prophecies thousands of years ago.

The one sure thing is you aren’t gonna go back to your old, safe life.

Monster of the Week is a self-contained roleplaying game of action/horror monster hunting. It’s designed to be quick and easy to prep and play.

If you like Monster of the Week shows like Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, X-files, or Angel, then this is up your alley!  This game is for 3-5 players.  Keeper (GM) is Jamie Sue and no experience is required.

You can choose from any of the hunter playbooks (character sheets) here: monster_of_the_week_files | gamesteratlarge

Playbooks are unique – so no two players can use the same playbook.  The rules are based on the Apocalypse World engine.  You’ll use 2d6 and “moves” which are found in the Hunter Reference Sheet (found in the files site listed above).

Query: I’ve been having a few practice sessions with MotW and other Apocalypse hacks that seem to have gone well but I tend to have my story sidetracked/hijacked by interesting things that players are doing during the average 3 hour session.

During my last MotW game the Spooky decided to summon a fire breathing monster to defeat the big bad and it pretty much took an entire session just to deal with the ramifications of that.

Heaps of fun but has anyone got a tidy system for keeping a game on time whilst not dismissing the stuff that springs up unexpectedly but is worth exploring?

So Cracked has some pretty creepy places listed.

So Cracked has some pretty creepy places listed.  I used Takakanonuma Greenland and looked up some of the lore on it.  I actually used some of the creepypasta story I found on a journalist gone missing and sent my MotW hunters to go find him.  Take a look at the link and check out their creepy locations list!  Have any of you used real life locations for your campaign?

Thinking about moves for the Scooby Doo variant of MotW.

Thinking about moves for the Scooby Doo variant of MotW.

Thinking about moves for the Scooby Doo variant of MotW. I think you can use Monsterhearts ‘Run Away’ move. You also need a ‘When you hide from a monster’ move. And with ‘Investigate a Mystery,” you get clues instead of weaknesses. You can accuse anyone at any time, but if you accuse the right person and have no clues then they can shrug off the accusation and destroy your credibility.
