Hi, all!

Hi, all!

Hi, all! I’m going to run a Monster of the Week campaign starting this Fall. I’ve run the MotW system before and I think it will lend itself well to the first part of the campaign. The setting will be somewhat urban, there will be a regular stream of big-bads for the Hunters to deal with, and the fiction is ripe for the players and me to co-construct the world and mythos. However, there will eventually come a time when the Hunters must “go beyond the wall,” as it will be, and leave the urban setting behind.

I’m not sure how to run a MotW campaign in a “journey through the unknown” setting. I had even considered switching systems for the second part! But I suspect I can supplement MotW with some custom player and keeper moves.

Has anyone run MotW campaign outside a consistent setting? Any ideas for adapting the system with new moves and mechanics?

Thanks!

So… whatcha think? The idea is to allow ‘ranged options’ that don’t rely on firearms, provide an alternate ranged weapon setup for a Chosen, and generally supplement/replace current ranged weapons as needed, depending on setting, and magic/technology level.

Thanks in advance!

Seems to me I remember a custom playbook called “The Ride”? Sort of like creating Kit or the Mystery Machine?

Does anyone still have access to this?

My MotW podcast, Tumbleson County (http://stpleague.org/podcast/tumbleson.html), finished recording its 3rd and final season earlier this year. In a move mirroring True Detective our series is jumping from the Deep South to the Pacific Northwest.

I put together a rumor generator to help me populate the area.

Player rolls kick some ass with a sniper rifle against a creature with only a claw attack but rolls a total of 7 how you you work the creature doing harm to player if there not in range ?

I have just had saved it as no damage dealt to player so now my players are all using ranged attacks to avoid taking harm

Hi all!

Hi all!

Hi all!

I’m a new member who’s been looking to start up a MotW game for some friends for a while now. It’s finally happening, and the theme I finally settled on is the Wild West during pioneer expansion. I’m looking for fun monsters to use that fit the setting. I’m hoping to keep it really intense and high-stakes, so I’m looking for monsters that are actually dangerous and scary rather than some of the more “folksy” monsters like Bigfoot or Nessie. For example the first monster I’m using is going to be an adaptation of the Fiend monster from the Witcher series that gets summoned by a vengeful pastor. Looking forward to seeing if anyone has any suggestions!

I’m setting up a larger arc for my players who just met the first arc threat. He’s a demon (or rough equivalent), who is trying to gather his 3-4 companions to then summon their king.

I set it up so this first demon was using another monster as the threat/to search for his friends, they beat that monster but let the demon get away (divine cast out evil).

I’m not sure how to move forward next, either more monster threats serving the first demon to find the other ones or have them each appear on their own with their own minions?

Also if they decide to fight one of the demons and win, then it should be harder for the rest to summon the king…. but I’m not sure how to represent that in a satisfying way where the players feel they have been rewarded for the success. maybe the king only partially manifests and has less wounds/harm/etc.

Thoughts welcome!

I ran MotW at a gameday last night for a group that had never played a PbtA game. After the game I asked what they thought about the session and one of the players held up his phone, saying he’d just bought it and downloaded it.

Hello,

I have a question about the chosen. How exactly do you play with the heroïc and the doom tags of his destiny ?

ex: The chosen uses a luck point to avoid a certain death after having protected one of his teamate. What’s a list of things you can do around the fate ? Specially “end of monsters”.

Is there an online ressources which describes shortly each of one effect ?

Thank you, I couldn’t stop playing this incredible game (20th games in 2 months).
