Back again this time a question about The Denotation.

When I see they have an implement such as a pencil, or in my players case a paintbrush, often times my player will use their implement to create constructs within the overlay of the Veil in the hybrid space. Things like painting doorknobs on locked panels, or painting blindfolds over the sensors of a gun drone.

I’m enjoying this as a creative way for the player to produce solutions to obstacles, but upon reading the recommendations and examples of the playbook from Cascade, I don’t really see any examples of the moves being used this way (since most of them deal with the manipulation of data rather than the production of digital constructs which affect the veil).

For the most part, I’ve been having my player roll subvert when they wish to add something to the digital overlay of the hybrid space.

My question is, lacking examples of this sort of productive capacity of the implement in the book, is this something that is intended to be within the scope of the playbook? Is the Denotation intended to be able to produce new objects with their implement rather than just alter the intended meaning of existing iconography?

Thanks!

Any tips on starting cyberware or the Catabolist? I’ve told my player that they likely have custom cybernetics at the start of the campaign but they don’t provided additional capabilities, I’ve also handwave that they have a cobbled together Neurochip so they can percieve he Veil. how have you handled this playbook in your games?

Hi, sorry if this was brought up elsewhere, but I’m having trouble understanding “The Future” element of the the Futurist playbook. Marking one off every time you fail a roll seems like it has the potential to retire the character REALLY quick given a bad run of rolls, or am I misunderstanding things? The expanded discussion of the playbook DOES describe the futurist as a brief-lived character, but it attributes it to the emotion spike thing, which, given that they can only miss 6 rolls before they risk becoming gone as a character, seems like the lesser risk? It also seems like it would make it difficult to ever actually to get to the 5+ advancements, given that the futurist effectively (even if not technically) doesn’t have the same access to getting xp for failing a move that other playbooks do.

Is there a pdf for the playbooks, or are we supposed to print out the single-page dealies from the core rule book?

Can someone answer a couple of questions about The Empath:

Why does the Empath have so many ways to gain Flow but can only expend it by using Charge Object and Sling?

In the book, the example suggests that you can choose how much Flow goes into Sling but a previous post here by the author suggests that you must use all of it. The playbook doesn’t list a cost. Which is correct?

Is Poison tipped flechette magnum/Plasma six-shooter a single gear option or an error?

I’ve got a few quick questions about The Empath.

I’ve got a few quick questions about The Empath.

1. Why does the Empath have a box to track Humanity? Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see any uses for humanity elsewhere in the playbook.

2. When using Sling, do you simply add the amount of flow you have stored or does it work like Charge Object where you add the amount of flow you are choosing to expend?

Thanks.

I’m curious: why didn’t 5 playtest playbooks make it into the rules?

I’m curious: why didn’t 5 playtest playbooks make it into the rules? The Aesthetic, Denotation, etc. Of course the PDFs are out there and we can use them if we want, but I’m curious what feedback you got, how they worked or didn’t, and what led to them not being included?

“WITH GREAT POWER

Select one state; whenever you would mark your fifth spike in that

emotion, you may choose to ignore it instead.”

Doesn’t that potentially enable a (bad) player to continually use their +2 emotion without any downside (besides fun)?

After a gift from your disease manifests itself, roll +symptoms. On a 10+, the MC chooses 1 and your symptom(s) manifest themselves as well.”

I’m not sure exactly what you mean by “manifests.” When you first gain a articular git or when you use a gift? Can you clarify the timing?

The basic move seems a little difficult to use IMO. You need to gather components, what might take several seasons, to just roll once. I have been considering adding one more option:

– Keep one component.

This way you could choose to be less effective to retain some of the ability to repeat on the same individual.

Would that break something? Maybe I am just being to harsh with the gathering of components. I just feel difficult to keep gathering more and more personal details on the same person. Could you provide several examples of ‘major life events’, that is how components are defined in the playbook?
