Playing a sci-fi games makes me really want to try a space battle in Uncharted Worlds. I’ve seen characters boarding moving vehicles and doing other crazy stunts, but we always avoided space battle.

Have you seen space battle in any AP or podcast or blog?

Have you played it yourself and can share with us, what was the setup, what actions players took to overcome particular challenges, what was the table feedback and feeling regarding space battles?

I’ve read the section about running Villains from FBH, but I still cannot picture in my mind how such battle can play out.

Hello!

Hello!

Hello! I’m new to AW, and was very excited to find it while digging into Dungeon World. I haven’t yet had the chance to play or run any of the PbtA engine games, but I’m intrigued by their shared mechanics, as well as the places they differ. Of course, since sci-fi is a huge draw for me, I’m looking forward to diving into UW.

I have a question, regarding Fronts. These to me were one of the most interesting tools in Dungeon World. It seemed as though Fronts would do a tremendous job of rallying plot elements and keeping tension in an ever-expanding story.

Can anyone speak to the compatibility of Fronts within UW? Can anyone think of reasons they may not work, or reasons to keep Threats more separate? Has anyone tried using Fronts in an UW campaign? Any thoughts are welcomed.

We’ve been playing a few sessions now and I just really, really like this system!

We’ve been playing a few sessions now and I just really, really like this system! I hope you (or someone) adapts it for pure fantasy.

I think the most genius thing that separates it from other PbtA systems is Face Adversity. Being flexible with that move seems crucial, and I love it!

The only thing I would change is that my players rarely use Assessment, but love the “Deduction” move. Other systems (like Dungeon World) allow their “investigate” move to force the GM to reveal the truth about a lot of different topics, I think Assessment could be tinkered to provide that support: players love forcing the GM to reveal things, and it’s good for the GM too!

I have a simple FBH rules question: is “Lay on Hands” supposed to buff “Alchemy” and “Inscribe,” since those moves also use “Patch Up?”

What are your good practices for setting new campaign?

By comparison, UW doesn’t have much private property or other setup like Apocalypse World has. I’ve recently started a new game in AW and just pure setup of Maestro’D and Hard Holder creates so many moving pieces on board, friends, clients, gangs, enemies etc. I find it a bit lacking in UW.

What we have are setting and factions, but I like tangible faces and places.

My idea to which I ask you feedback and thoughts is:

Firstly to have a physical or virtual piece of paper and start drawing the region of space where game will take place.

To ask every player not only to assign a debt to a faction, but also describe how he came to be in debt to that faction, did he blow up factory of that faction, did he scam them for money, did he crossed an important persona.

To create existing members and places of that faction instead of owing anonymous faceless entity.

Then to have everyone create a place in the near by space, a crazy space station, a unique planet, a base on the moon. We can then assign those places to factions.

Of course half of it will not be used, but other half I hope will be an evocative awesome place to visit, where players would like to be excited to go and visit / mess around.

Lastly to create a conflict, a situation that is happening and highly destabilize the situation in the area – alien invasion, cue in one of the major factions. Players have to be interested in interacting with the situation, maybe they are partially responsible for it.

Thoughts and ideas?

How do you make your UW games going?

Has anyone run into the impulse to give players some kind of monetary credit?

We’re adding a new PC to the crew of a starship, and I want to give them credit for a workspace, without actually just installing it in the ship right away. Installation as part of a join up agreement makes sense, but it jars me to have them just jump into that commitment. This has me thinking about ways of giving them credit instead.

I think credit could be in the form of favor with a faction or I could represent it as a kind of virtual cargo — eg you have credit for one unit of class 2 cargo.

Thoughts on this? Have other people encountered this? What did you do?

Looking for a Sci-Fi interior artist

Looking for a Sci-Fi interior artist

So as I mentioned when trying desperately to get FBH out the door this summer, my previous interior artist and I have parted ways and he won’t be doing any further work on the books. This leaves me looking for a new artist, a task I’ve been dreading/putting off for far too long.

Anywho, if anyone here knows of a good interior artist, I’m all ears. I’d be looking to commission several pages for this book alone, with two more books next year, so it’s a fair chunk of work. The work would be black and white, and I’m a strong fan of stylish, hard contrast shapes, but I’m open to different styles.

(One of my favorit B&W style is in the vein of Mignola https://i.pinimg.com/736x/f2/87/7e/f2877e29b2d268aaf46b5b16386345da–mike-mignola-art-black-white-art.jpg)

I’d appreciate getting portfolio links or whatnot, rather than going around bothering the artists themselves.

Thanks folks!

“When a character undergoes a significant, drastic personal upheaval, they may also choose a new advancement from any career.”

Does this mean they can add a 2nd advancement trigger in addition to the one they already have, or is this just a requirement to choose another trigger from a different career when they normally cash in their XP for a skill? (As described on pangs 163 under “Gaining a skill”.

Problem: A large, powered suit of armour or a small mech.

Problem: A large, powered suit of armour or a small mech. Sometimes called a landmate (Masamune Shirow term) or hardsuit. What is it?

It could be an armoured attire asset, sure, but that seems too small.

I’ve solved this for my group by making it a small walker vehicle, which allows the user to take the armed upgrade for using heavy weapons – which should be the military purpose of making such a battlesuit. This makes it at least a class 2 asset and therefore uncommon, which seems likely.

The size of such a harness / suit of powered armour makes you unable to walk through a typical doorway, but upscales the capability of a single soldier.

The advantages of a hardsuit makes them desireable, but they don’t all have them yet. 😀

Does your group have similar assets? How would you define such a thing?
