I have a question about if a power can create an advantage which gives the character a new or different “use” until the advantage is destroyed?

I was creating a character and one of his abilities is to manipulate matter in a way similar to transformers. He is an alien living computer construct and lets say he touches a tank I would like him to transform the tank into a suit of armor with a big ass gun. The benefits of the armor and the gun would be advantages gained.

Hello all!

Hello all!

Hello all!

Just a quick question about “Defy Danger” as I am a little confused as to when should players use that move…

So, let’s assume that a PC is facing “Cuisine Art” the psychopatic “chef” that can control knives around him with his mind (telekinesis). I tell my PC that the “chef” is surrounded by a whirlwind of knives, essentially forming a blade barrier.

If my PC which to smash him physically, should he do a defy danger move first and then, if he succed, he can use his smash move?

How would that situation work? Should Defy Danger be the kind of move that opens other actions?

Ps: hey, i kinda like the “Chef”…he could well be the villain my kids will be facing next week!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR JURASSIC WORLD!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR JURASSIC WORLD!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR JURASSIC WORLD!

So the wife and I went to see Jurassic World today. Throughout the movie I kept seeing it as a game of DW/WiP (also Cortex+, but that’s not relevant here).

When the kids try to attack the raptor with the taser and it only knocks it back temporarily I saw that as rolling 7-9 to avoid danger. I saw a lot of the “success with a price or drawback” at various moments.

At the end when Claire whips out the flair to summon Rexie, I was in awe. I was thinking that she was performing a Move that was a lot like burning a bond, but not quite. They unleashed the previously most-feared dinosaur. Claire held the flare and stood like a priestess providing an offering. At the end of the adventure Rexie took her price as she stood as the uncontested ruler of the island.

What existing move would best represent that scenario? Where you openly beg the aid of your bitterest foe to defeat a stronger enemy, and at the cost of giving in to your rival’s demands.

Mister Administrator, can we get a “Villain of the Week” category so that people can post their most interesting villains with stats and background?

That way, we can all go there and get what we need for the next session…in an instance!

BTW, great product…I love it!

Hello Everyone, just got my copy and I am now absorbing the material as my boys (9 and 7) really want a run…this week-end.

I have a couple questions regarding consequences on PCs:

1) When an NPC targets a PC with an “attack”, how do you determine the severity of the consequence to assign?

This is especially true as, if I understand well, the Gm does not generate action, but throws PC in front of situation that could cause them harm.

So, if one of my PC is being attacked by “Destructo”, the evil power house, should I assume that if he succeed at his attack its at least a severe consequence? As the Gm does not roll dice, can I actually use the same moves as the PCs?

2) If you already have a minor consequence, is it bumped up to severe if you get another minor consequence?

How would you define powers with limitation?

This one is probably easy, but I have to ask. If your PC has a power with conditions, how do you fit it in the Power description (sorry, I am off with proper naming…just finished first reading)…

For example, my son wants to play a guys who gets stronger and tougher when he ‘eats’ fire…

PS: This game is fantastic for a “busy father” Game Master.

Is there an Initiative or Turn mechanic or is that simply based on the narrative?

It is my understanding that Inflicting Conditions, using an Enemy Move, only needs to have narrative justification. So what this means is that the EIC never needs to roll dice for an enemy?

Or is this just woven into the narrative, by the Take Down Move; specifically when a character decides to NOT choose “Take No Harm In the Doing”?

Does the EIC decide, based upon the narrative, how severe a Condition should be and just assigns it to the unfortunate hero?

Throwing this potential move to groupthink.  This shouldn’t cause any problems, right?

When you don the Cosmic Crown the powers in your profile reduce in difficulty by one step to a minimum of Simple.  e.g Difficult powers become Simple, Borderline becomes Difficult, Possible become Borderline, Impossible becomes Possible.  You gain a new Impossible power ‘Unable to resist the bidding of the Cosmic Crown.’

So I’ve been working on an RPG system for a while, which I’ve been calling the Wanderer System.

So I’ve been working on an RPG system for a while, which I’ve been calling the Wanderer System. It’s got a few good ideas, including using 2D6 of different colors to activate the enemy’s attacks off of how well you roll (you only ever make one roll per round), a series of what I was calling Burdens, which can be both positive and negative, and allow you to sacrifice something good in your life to stay in the game, as well as very easy-to-generate monsters.

Anyway, out comes WiP and I realize that the street-level supers setting (among many other settings) I was working on is now useless. The Dungeon World system does a lot of what I was hoping to do in the Wanderer System, with Bonds working similar to burdens.

This has made me realize that I should probably just keep the best ideas I had for my system and use them to create a DW/Fate hybrid/hack. Anyway, the moral of the story is that WiP is a fantastic system.
