So I ran my first session of World Wide Wrestling RPG. A great time was had by all, but the players did bring something to my attention. One the players was playing Heel who was the announcer for a match between an Anti-Hero Babyface and a Monster Heel. The whole time he was announcing he was building up the other Heel. Then at a point he asked me through a private message (we were playing on Discord) “Can I make a run-in?” to which I responded “I don’t see why not.”

So he did the run-in rolled great a 10+, but there was one problem. He didn’t have a choice on the run-in move that represented what he wanted to do. He wanted to pull a screw-job so the other Heel would win. The problem is the only option on the list that changes the booking of the match. Is one where the person who gets attacked wins by disqualification. We went with it that way for now. But I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on how to house-rule run-ins so Heels could pull screw-jobs. I remember someone posting something here about house-ruling run-ins but I’ve yet to find it again. Any help would be appreciated.

I’m gearing up to run my first session of World Wide Wrestling on Saturday. I’ve got at least three or four potential players. All of whom are fans of wrestling. Only one of them has any experience with roleplaying however. And that’s restricted primarily to D&D. I’m going to run them through the Quickstart Scenario. So that helps a little, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice. On teaching the game to people who’ve either never role-played before or only have a background in D&D. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hopefully it’s alright to post this here as some inspiration.

Hopefully it’s alright to post this here as some inspiration. If not I’m more than happy to remove it. I recently just finished reading this comic and thought that it reminded me quite a bit of a game of Sagas of the Icelanders. The only real difference being that the story takes place around a farmstead in Scotland’s Orkney Islands rather than Iceland. Nonetheless it’s a great story involving the sort of betrayal and bloodshed that you’d expect from a Viking Saga.

There’s a greedy relative, a mysterious wanderer come to reclaim his birthright. Questions about faith to the Gods whether they be Norse or otherwise. Honour called into question, false romance, surviving a harsh winter. A rumour of a monster and being cursed by the Gods (really the hero pulling a ruse), Norse mythologic symbolism. Everything you could want from a good Game of Sagas of the Icelanders. It doesn’t stop there the MC (or in this case writer) makes sure to throw the characters a few curve balls that they weren’t expecting. Honestly I’d recommend that MCs read this for inspiration when they run Sagas.

A Wrestler concept that’s been rolling around in my head. A popular wrestler that was dropped from the promotion due to addiction issues, reckless behaviour in the ring, etc. He’s finally cleaned up and is trying to get back into the promotion. After some time in the Indie Circuit he’s sort of proven himself for a probationary period. As long as he keeps clean, of course it’s very likely that he’ll fall off the wagon again. He’s popular, though it’s more for his notoriety from his earlier days in the ring. Rather than any particular skill at wrestling (though he has been training to improve as part of his trying to turn over a new leaf). Of course the fans don’t want to see him for his wrestling, they want to see him for the crazy stunts he used to pull. Which puts pressure on him to do dangerous stuff once again (sober or not).

My question is, would the Wasted Playbook work for this or would I have to come up with custom Playbook?

Recently picked up The ‘Hood from Groundhoggoth Games and decided to have some fun.

Recently picked up The ‘Hood from Groundhoggoth Games and decided to have some fun. Statting up the characters from Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as playbooks from the game.

Edit: This should go without saying but, if you haven’t seen the movie. This post contains spoilers. So if you haven’t seen it go watch it and come back to this post. I guarantee you won’t regret it.

Night Witches: Character Concepts the Return

So a while back I wrote some character concepts for Night Witches.  You can find those here .  Essentially they’re characters I came up with after an initial glance at the prompts in the Night Witches playbooks.  I’ve been wanting to write a continuation to…

Some more character concepts based on the prompts from the playbooks and my own sick imagination.

I was thinking about hacking some of the concepts from Sagas to be used for a Middle Ages game. Specifically England under Norman rule. I do have some ideas for playbooks. Thoughts?

I’m considering making a Hack of Apocalypse World called Feudal World.

I’m considering making a Hack of Apocalypse World called Feudal World.

I’m considering making a Hack of Apocalypse World called Feudal World. It would be a straight medieval setting, where the players play key Individuals in their medieval society. The Apocalypse System is built around scarcity, what could be more scarce than the Middle Ages.

I have some playbook concepts in mind.

The Landholder – A cross between the Hardholder and the Man from Sagas of the Icelanders. They will probably own everything in the area.

The Divine – Essentially the Hocus or perhaps the Godi from Sagas. They possess a following, whether it’s some lay brothers of their order or the villagers of their congregation.

The Cavalier (working name) – the primary fighting playbook of the game. Can be flavoured as the Landholder’s loyal Retainer or as a mercenary or as an independent out for himself. Sort of cross between the Gunlugger, the Chopper and the Huscarl.

That’s what I have solid ideas on at this point. What do you think? If there’s interest I will continue to explore this idea.
