We had an absolutely amazing season finale session on Friday. I am going to write a full report this week (when I can squeeze it in), but know this:

The climactic end scene in a “court” of the Fae brought all the major threads to a head, in the most amazing way.

The moves really, really work for social conflict and drama. There was a lot of trust in the system and the group to bring up the story threads that they wanted to resolve. And it worked!

We started the night with a conversation about what had happened before and what was ‘looming’ over them. This really helped focus us and made the nights play tight and seem “well scripted”…but of course, it wasn’t.

The group had all played some kind of pbta game, except one person, and this seemed like the most perfect session I have ever run.

One caveat/comment: we were having a slight issue with each session opening up new treads and introducing new characters and problems. I had read/heard about this with US elsewhere and we called it out in this session. That really made a difference in pushing what we established to be connected, either organically or by design. Regardless it worked. If you see this happening, call it out and talk about it, then focus your results on pushing the elements against each other instead of inventing new ones!

That’s all. More later!

Going to run actual 1st session tomorrow.

Going to run actual 1st session tomorrow.

Going to run actual 1st session tomorrow. We did chargen and world building (Fictional version of Seattle, mashed up with Portland and Vancouver called Rain City!).

But actual first RP session is tomorrow. We have a ton of good back story and relationships, so the question is:

Should I ignore the start of session mechanic on that first session, in favor of hard-framing to get them all together?

I am looking for a “best bets” kind of feedback, it seems like the start of session is really meant for on-going session not that first one.

Thanks!

Finally got to run Urban Shadows Last night and it was amazing fun!

I cannot wait dr the preorder PDF to be emailed so I can dig deeper into another session.

I used a Vegas set up that I had devised for a different game. Just had 6 NPC’s and some goals and plot elements. The PC’s did the rest. Ran it with a Vamp, a Veteran, an Oracle and a Wizard. Very fun!

Here is a “fiddly bit” I have been rolling around for AW/DW, but it could be adapted to other games as well.

Here is a “fiddly bit” I have been rolling around for AW/DW, but it could be adapted to other games as well. It draws inspiration from other games that have used it as a central idea.

I call them Asset pools as they are meant to be bolted-on to gear, weapons, or other non-move, non-stat elements…but they could be…

Please share thoughts, I just wanted to get reactions and problems.

I am preparing to run Urban Shadows/AW for the first time…what AW rules would you say I need to focus on before running? What are the key points of understanding?
