Yet more asking for help… say the PC heroes are up against two villains. For the sake of the example one is a slow lumbering type who is able to fire off energy blasts like a Gatling gun. The other is a small fast agile type who is mainly trying to avoid being clobbered.

Is it really just as easy to directly engage one as the other? Would the effects of trading blows with each be the same? I know the ethos of the game is not to apply modifiers to the roll but should speedy agile guy not be harder to hit than stationery Gatling bloke.

Also if Gatling Chap is peppering the area with suppressive fire how do I represent that as a threatening environment for the heroes?

I ran my first game of Masks the other day and we all had a blast. I’m new to PbtA games in general and while everything went well I wondered if there are any examples of play around – particularly of battle scenes. Combat works so differently in Masks to almost every other game I’ve played and I want to make sure I’m doing the system justice. Can anyone recommend some clear examples of how a scene would play out?

Ran my first game of Masks today. Picked it up at Gencon 50 a few weeks ago! We loved it. I intend to by the expansions when they come out. Is there any way to get access to the other playbooks early. I obviously missed the kickstarter, but I’m definitely going to buy the other books. I just want to have the additional options and ideas in my game!

Here is a strange question, and I don’t think I have the gotten quite the right wording yet.

Let’s say I wanted to run a Paragon game using most of the Masks rules. IMHO, the influence rules are the big thing that no longer really “fits,” since Paragons are much more sure of who they are (for better or worse) than young heroes.

My question is what would you replace the influence rules with, and why?

I’ve got a question about character knowledge and the Assess the Situation move.

I’ve got a question about character knowledge and the Assess the Situation move. When a player uses Assess the Situation, how much do you take the character’s personal knowledge into account?

Last night my group was facing a highly advanced alien robotic lifeform. Our Delinquent, who is 100% human, has a low level of education, and has never been to space or dealt with anything more advanced than a smart phone rolled to Assess and decided to ask how to break this super advanced cage made by the super advanced alien robot. She rolled an 11 and I didn’t really want to say “you have no idea”, cause she had a good roll, so I ended up waffling some response that honestly sounded like BS to me.

But at the same time, the team does have an alien (the Outsider) and a cybernetically enhanced person (the Transformed) who would have had knowledge relevant to this particular question. And I was a little sad to not give them the opportunity to use it for this particular obstacle.

Should I have stuck to my first instinct, which was to say “you have no idea” and give the other two members the opportunity to put their knowledge to use? Or is it better to reward the player for a successful roll, even if it requires a bit of a stretch?

I recently picked up Masks in the current Bundle of Holding, and there are suggestions to look out for a couple supplements that were supposedly forthcoming. However, I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Have any sourcebooks or supplements been released yet?

I’m running a decently successful Masks game, but there has been one noticeable issue.

I’m running a decently successful Masks game, but there has been one noticeable issue. One of the players has created a character that is on another power level compared to the rest of the team. He’s had his moment of truth early and essentially there really isn’t anything I can throw at the guy for external threat.

I let my players have a lot of narrative say in the world (since play by post is slow normally) and this players character has established that several “justice league” members couldn’t take him on alone.

Can you be too powerul in Masks?

I have a question.

I have a question.

I got a chance to play Masks for the first time over the previous weekend. It was great! But when I used the word “mundane” in character the GM jumped on that and basically told me that wasn’t protocol. This is not the first time that has happened to me in a PbtA game.

So my question is, can I use the game terms in character like the words they actually are? Is there a clear rule against that?

Are there any samples of what the influence/ condition cards look like now that they are out?

A question about the Janus’ “The Mask” move.

When a Janus uses “The Mask” near the end of a session to exchange his Mundane for his Mask-Label, is this exchange “permanent”, but subject to label shifts as usual or will it only last the rest of the session?

Just asking if the “time passes” that probably follows the session will have to use the “new” Mundane label then.
