Nahual One-Shot with Mike Espinoza, Maria Rivera, Mark Diaz Truman and Warius

I’m very happy to announce something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time: Miguel Espinoza will run a game of Nahual for Maria Rivera, Mark Diaz Truman, Warius and me this next Sunday 28th of October at 15:30 Eastern (19:30 GMT+0) live on the twitch channel of Hijos del Rol. This will be in celebration of the launch (and success) of the Nahual kickstarter. And also because any excuse is good to bring so many cool people together. For those of you who don’t know some of them:

– Maria Rivera (@Thoobn): GauntletCon organiser

– Mark Diaz Truman (@trumonz): co-owner of Magpie games, co-founder of the Indie Game Development Network and game designer/co-designer of The Play’s The Thing, Our Last Best Hope, Urban Shadows, and Cartel.

– Warius (@elwarius): twitch partner, DM/Narrator and host of the #UnaPartidaMas D&D show.

– Mike Espinoza (@nahualrpg): Game Designer and layout artist for Nahual, he has also done layout work for Magpie games, John Wick Presents and Gallant Night Games among others.

And if by any chance you haven’t heard about it yet, Nahual is a tabletop roleplaying game of Mexican urban fantasy. In Nahual you play as shapeshifting nahuales that hunt angels to make a living. You run a changarro—a business—together and sell the angels you hunt as different types of products. Caught in the middle of an ancient feud, you struggle to find your place in a world of fantastical and overwhelming forces.

I can’t express of excited I am about this, and I hope you are as well. If you wanted to see how the game plays out, this is the perfect opportunity to discover it in the company of some excellent people and roleplayers (plus myself). I hope to see you all next Sunday and I would appreciate it a lot if you could share this around. Thanks!

Thank you everyone who has contributed so far with pledges, sharing the kickstarter, discussing the game, and following. I can’t believe how many folks have shown excitement for this game and I’m truly moved. I’d love for us to unlock the next stretch goal, so please continue to share the kickstarter and hype up your friends for space opera adventures!

As we come in to the last few hours of the kickstarter, there’s time for the final push to get all the art from the wonderful illustrator Claudia Cangini. Once the campaign is complete, I’ll be sending out surveys for preferred names in the thank you section of the book, and contact emails for download codes from Drivethru RPG when the files are ready.

Vroom Vroom

Vehicles in Impulse Drive operate by giving the player tags defined as +Strengths and -Weaknesses that impart +Advantage and -Disadvantage as they apply to the situation and Moves the players make.

I spent some of this evening on a retro anime kick, and watched a few episodes of the original macross cartoon. the animation was pretty great for an old TV show!

I was reminded of my love for the transforming Variable fighters from when I watched it as a kid. (dubbed as Robotech) and was inspired to add some new stuff for vehicles in the Drifting section.

Vehicle: Variable Systems

+Variable: It has two vehicle forms of the same size with their own Tag sets it can transform between

Discharge: After it transforms, the Variable Systems are Discharged.

When you create a Vehicle with Variable Systems, work with the SM to create the Tags both forms share, such as number of Crew, Passengers, whether it is -Cramped or +Spacious, how many weapons are +Equipped, etc. Then work together to choose which unique tags each Form has.

Common examples would be combining A speeder and a Battleframe or Power Armor, or a Fighter and an Armature.

Variable Armor

Speed Form: 1 Hit, +Responsive, +Speedy, -Fragile, -Cramped.

Armor form: 1 Hit, +Armored, +Equipped 1, -Cramped, -Flashy.

Variable Armature

Fighter form: 3 Hits, +Responsive, +Speedy, +Spacefaring, +Equipped 1, -Cramped.

Armature form: 3 Hits, Accurate, +Spacefaring, +Equipped 2, -Cramped.

I’m trying to reach out to more people.

I’m trying to reach out to more people. I’m trying to collect more RPG blogs before Google+ shuts down in a few months. Who knows, perhaps the blogosphere will get stronger. If you have a blog focused on Powered of the Apocalypse games, or a category on your blog for these games, and you’d like to get more eyes on your material and keep the blogs alive, please let me know in the comments or via mail (kensanata@gmail.com).

Blogosphere Power Engage!

If you have a RPG blog, either for the OSR or for Indie games, please submit your blog by leaving a comment. These are the two Planets I run right now:

A Planet is a website which collects posts from member blogs and display them on a single page. Thus, these two pages are ideal for people looking for new blogs to follow, people who aren’t subscribed to 200 blogs or more in their feed reader, people who who are curious. And it’s a low cost way to get your blog in front of more eyes.

Hello friends! I’m looking for play-testers for my Western-themed PbtA game.

Lonesome World is:

– Powered by the Apocalypse

– A one-on-one game about the Old West

– Focused more on the history of late 19th century America rather than the mythology

– Designed to explore complex themes emerging from America’s complicated past

– Still in early development 🙂

To whet your appetite, here’s the playbook:

If you’re interested in doing a play test, get in touch through this form:

I’m especially interested in play-testing with people from marginalized communities.

Thanks!
