I’ve been working with some new players to make characters, and one of them just took this move. It’s a move that is super cool thematically, but is confusing me somewhat.

Ritual

When you entrust a situation to the power of your rituals, fortunes, hexes, and charms, you can roll +Expertise instead of whatever the usual stat would be. This will likely be complicated, unpredictable, and deeply unsettling.

When is this triggered? When the player says they’re falling back onto their mumbo-jumbo? Is this a use +expertise whenever they like, with more unpredictable, supernatural consequences?

How have you used/ resolved this move in the past?

What counts as a ritual, fortune, hex or charm? Are these the methods by which other supernatural moves are used?

Hoping to hear more about the thoughts behind this one, and how I should approach it. Because either it’s a move that requires a player to go out of their way to trigger, or it’s a move that can be triggered constantly.

(1) I am creating a a character with a Military Career. He gets a “Class 3” weapon. How do I create a “Class 3” weapon? I only see Class 1 and Class 2 weapons in the book.

I’m working on a few major things, a couple of which I’m not ready to announce yet.

The one I AM ready to talk about is the Uncharted Worlds Character Creator.

A few of you are probably familiar with the random character generator I originally posted a few weeks ago. That remains my Uncharted Worlds Project #1, and has a few updates coming for it soon.

The new Character Creator is an entirely new app that allows you to create a character the way you want it.

You’ll be able to pick all the options from start to finish, and write your own custom text for those bits that allow it, like naming characters and assets and such. You’ll also be able to save your character as either a shareable website link or a downloadable PDF.

At launch, it will only include content from the core book. However, rest assured that I’ve got Far Beyond Humanity on my backlog of stuff to add in the future.

This is Uncharted Worlds Project #2, as far as Iron Arachne (my personal nonprofit, unaffiliated fan-tools-for-RPGs website) goes.

Uncharted Worlds Projects #3 and #4 are still in the planning stages, though #3 has some experimental code already written.

I’m excited to be working on these things, and I hope they prove useful to you.

First off, my deepest congratulations to Sean Gomes for his tremendous work on the UW & FBH source books. I had been searching for a narrative-oriented system other than Fate for a Star Wars Campaign that I’d planned to run for a decade, and UW seems to fit perfectly.

After our first session, I would love to have the community’s feedback on how to manage the Dark Side or any kind of corruption. Apart from the narrative and maybe notes or special events that I could set up as a GM, I was wondering if had use any game mechanics that could help me to keep track of one of my PC’s light/dark tendencies.
