We know the imminent G+ shutdown is lingering in the back of all our minds! Before we get sucked into the black hole that can be the holiday season, we would like to gather some intel on where and how our fans would like to transition this community.

Some of you may already use Discord or Reddit, but we know some people find those spaces difficult to navigate. That said, some people want to avoid using Facebook for gaming conversations. While there might not be a perfect space, we’d love a medium in which everyone feels comfortable free to engage, and able to easily reach out to us with questions about gameplay, mechanics, etc.

In addition to options like Discord or Facebook, we’re also considering opening up our own Magpie forums on magpiegames.com as we revamp the site over the next couple of months. Please let us know if that option seems of interest to you!

Let the polling commence! And, of course, more detailed feedback in the comments is always welcome 🙂

Hi, Masters of Masks

Hi, Masters of Masks

Hi, Masters of Masks

Do you have a Master Screen for Masks? How do you organize? What stuff did you put in it?

I’m mastering a party of 6 (before was 7) and I print the principles, gm moves, every playbook for marking their moves and help them with that, hooks, villains, DM Sheet, Moves, NPCs and Corporations…

And even I have an excel with the flux of influences.

That’s a lot!

Off course that when I become better master I need less… But that’s the way it is.

Maybe an official Master Screen of Masks would be amazing.

Glad to see your opinions and setups!

Its probably just me but I’d love to see a spinoff of Masks focusing on Adults as part a superteam.

The Playbooks in the main MASKS book and in Unbound have a GM section for special moves to use against EACH playbook. But I can’t find any for the Halcyon City Playbooks. I’m running a game now with ‘The Joined’ and would realy like to know what the designers had in mind as GM playbook moves.

Does anyone know where I can find these moves?

(Here is an example of what I’m talking about:

“The Protege

● Convey their mistakes

● Bestow wisdom, wanted or unwanted

● Hold up a mirror to them

● Give them exactly what they need at a cost

● Endanger their mentor” )

I am mildly amused that two established NPC heroes in my game match the Harbinger and Nomad.

I’m surprised that Aqualad (Young Justice) wasn’t listed as an inspiration for the Scion. (Spoilers!) season 2 is basically the long version of the Changed Sides move.

After purchasing my copy of Masks Unbound and taking a look at the playbooks, something struck me about the Nomad.

Their “Putting Down Roots” feature might make for the basis of another good feature for a custom playbook. I’m thinking along the lines of the Empowered character Thug Boy again, but moreso of a superheroic variant of McCauley from Heat.

A hero whose inner struggle involves them being on the run from someone or something that will be their end if caught, and has to make a decision by the end to either stand and fight or skip town once again the moment they feel the heat around the corner.

I’m still struggling with a name for this feature, and a proper name for the playbook… the Runaway, maybe? Fugitive?

Hey people! I have a few questions about the game.

Hey people! I have a few questions about the game.

1) How do I introduce a new player character after the first session of play? I’m asking this because I’m not sure how this would affect the relations between the other characters.

2) How do you handle the use of the “comfort & support” move in your game? Last session my players kept using this move like healing potions and I felt that didn’t have the emotional meaning that the move requires.

3) how do you handle the “power negation” power from the delinquent playbook? I think this could be very overpower during the game.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

I was wondering how other people go about writing or coming up with arcs.
