God rest ye merry lycanthropes

God rest ye merry lycanthropes

God rest ye merry lycanthropes,

Let nothing bother you.

Remember that the wolvesbane all died out in ’42.

The werewolf hunter’s stuck at home,

Suffering with the flu.

Oh the world is yours when the full moon rises high.

The world is yours when the full moon rises high.

Electrum came in vogue this year,

The silver’s almost gone.

The only blessed weapons

Are on hock at EZ Pawn.

In short there’s nothing here to stop a lycanthropic throng.

Oh the world is yours when the full moon rises high.

The world is yours when the full moon rises high.

Half of mankind is infected,

We’re creatures one and all.

The rest are used for exercise,

Or are mounted to a wall.

It might be fun to sit and watch civilization fall.

Oh the world is yours when the full moon rises high.

The world is yours when the full moon rises high.

Hey everyone, I’m hoping to get some insight into Use Magic – this rpg.se question has an open bounty worth 100 reputation. Maybe someone from this group has an expert answer?

So I’m just wondering how some of you handle the move use magic. In our first session it was only used twice. Both times by the initiate. The first time was to deal damage. Then later the roof collapsed in one of the areas in the house to separate my two players. Well he instantly (by the way he is 9 years old) said he wanted to use magic to throw the debri out through the hole in the ceiling. It was a 10+ so why not? I let him do it since it seemed like it would fall under the ‘do one thing that is beyond human limitations.’

I was thinking about Monster of the Week and was inspired by the GM Holocron described in an old episode of the Order 66 podcast for the Star Wars RPG. You could use a tool like Evernote to create a handy compendium of things to pull together for any story as needed. Instead of just prep for this story, you have a compendium of prep work to draw from as needed.

Imagine a digital notebook of monsters, minions, locations, and bystanders (especially bystanders) that is tagged and searchable. You just write them down when ever your inspired. Each one is defined enough to be useful but has all the “hook” points that would tie it to your story open.

Now next time your running the game you suddenly need a Victim Bystander to plug into your small rural town, because things have stalled. You check your notebook for notes tagged bystander, victim, and small town and see that you’ve got a sheriffs deputy you wrote down 6 months ago when you were watching a movie. A quick search for location, maze, outdoors and small town, and you’ve got a note you wrote down when you were hiking 2 months ago. You’re ready to roll because the deputy and the forest have a personality, description, motives and names—maybe even pictures, ready to go.

It could speed up your prep for any individual story because it will spread it out over many instances of natural inspiration instead of that time just before your game when you sit down to think it all up.

So tonight will be my first game with MotW.

So tonight will be my first game with MotW.

So tonight will be my first game with MotW. My players (daughter and brother both 9-years old) have been playing Dungeon World so they are already familiar with the system. I recently discovered this game and thought they would enjoy it. I will be using my parent’s house as the location of the events. A Giant Plant monster growing out of the pool in the backyard that is beginning to spread throughout the house and neighborhood. There are some humanoid type plant minions that the monster has turned the residents of the home (my family) into. I really want to put them in the position of, “now honey, do you really want to cut your grandmother’s head off? Or would you like to see if maybe there’s a ‘cure’ for this?” Just have to make a small adjustment to the playbooks and moves by changing ass to butt so the kids aren’t yelling, “I want to kick some ass!” Ha. I just know my brother is probably going to go with the Monstrous while my daughter will probably pick the Spooky. So we will just have to see how this plays out later.

So I’m brainstorming a MotW adventure for Owlcon and I wanted to pick the brains of folks who have done this before.

So I’m brainstorming a MotW adventure for Owlcon and I wanted to pick the brains of folks who have done this before. Usually when I run stuff at cons, I prefer to make pregens, often times using characters everyone’s familiar with (for instance, I ran a Mutants and Masterminds round last year with the Guardians of the Galaxy). But character creation in MotW is so quick I was wondering if folks had had success with giving folks a list of playbooks to choose from and just taking off from there.  Thoughts?

Which one is the monster?

Which one is the monster?

Which one is the monster? The Necronomicon or Keeper in the Woods? Because from my understanding, Deadites are definitely minions.

Keep in mind I’m pretty new to the Apocalypse Engine and haven’t played or ran a Monster of the Week game before.

How does a Evil Dead (Team concept: group of traumatized losers lead by a Chosen One forced to reunite to fight deadites) table top RPG ran with Monster of the Week (Apocalypse World Engine) sound to you? Would you be interested in trying out a session 0 on a Saturday night (EST/GMT-5) on Google Hangouts?

So I have a question about mind affecting PC as a GM. So I want to mind control or influence my PCs. I’m not sure what they should roll. I am taking a cue from theDominate power out of Monsterous and saying ‘if you just go with it, you get so.’

If they want to try and resist they should roll sharp? Cool? Also would it be too harsh to say that if they forgo the free xp and choose to roll, if they fail the roll they don’t get xp? My rational being they are forgoing free xp by rolling they are gambling against failing.

Would it be ok to put together a list of all the current moves and custom moves people have created for their playbooks? I would love to see a massive list of moves to chose from. I know some of the moves when taken out of context may seem strange though.
