Just to say that I’ve really enjoyed reading The Veil on my short break away from reality (how fitting). I’m due to run the game at revelationgames.org.uk in February as a short one shot. I think I’m going epic, with a narrow theme that emerges and builds in a primed setting.

I’m not sure I can fully do the game advice the justice it deserves, but a mind bending session beckons.

I’ll write up when I can get to a keyboard. I’ll pop back for advice as needed.

So I’ve been a little stumped lately on ways I can challenge the Empath in my game.

So I’ve been a little stumped lately on ways I can challenge the Empath in my game. One of their beliefs is: “I’ve survived for centuries so far; i have the experience to adapt to anything life throws at me”

I’d love some suggestions.

I’ve got a few quick questions about The Empath.

I’ve got a few quick questions about The Empath.

1. Why does the Empath have a box to track Humanity? Maybe I’m missing something but I don’t see any uses for humanity elsewhere in the playbook.

2. When using Sling, do you simply add the amount of flow you have stored or does it work like Charge Object where you add the amount of flow you are choosing to expend?

Thanks.

For Gauntlet Con 2017 I ran The Veil: Cascade twice!

The First Session, “Dead Silence”, was one where we built a setting and we just improvised our way to a satisfying conclusion. Kind of an accelerated version of just playing a first session.

The Second Session, “The Green Zone”, is the scenario that will appear in Cascade itself, albeit with a much lighter overview with the time constraint. It is an emergent mystery that gives you a setup, a couple threats if needed, and just trusts you to work together to figure it out.

Both sessions were awesome and I enjoyed them for different reasons. As you can tell from the book I love emergent themes and world building brings that out well. On the other hand, pulling off a mystery where no one at the table knows who did it or why, is also so damn cool! All the players were fantastic.

I removed Giri/Obligation, I told the players to simply use moves as they came up instead of choosing them. We didn’t engage with Questions/Beliefs or the XP system; similarly, if they needed a specific cybernetic or piece of gear for fictional positioning, they just had it. In session one I had players choose gear and cybernetics and did not do that based on a player’s suggestion in session 1, and it sped it up very much. I think it’s a good example of running The Veil both ways: prepared scenario and from scratch.

I also scoured the internet for AP of The Veil and compiled all of it into one playlist, along with another for all the AP I’ve participated in as a player. Turns out it is a LOT of content. I’m very blessed to have played in so many games with so many players. I also saved Gauntlet Con playlists to my channel if you want to check out the many awesome games that took place, which, I highly recommend you do!!!

Here’s a link to the main channel’s playlist – simply find what you want there!

Folks have reached out stating their distaste for the use of the word “Giri” in The Veil today.

Folks have reached out stating their distaste for the use of the word “Giri” in The Veil today. As a result it’s being changed to “Obligation”.

This change has already been made for 2nd printing that is upcoming. If you feel like there is more problematic content in the game than just that this, and you do want to reach out, which I do not expect you to be obligated to do for any reason. Feel free to contact me.

I’ll update everything later on, so far this is the only change beyond the update already on DrivethruRPG.

They feel pretty similar to me.

I’m curious: why didn’t 5 playtest playbooks make it into the rules?

I’m curious: why didn’t 5 playtest playbooks make it into the rules? The Aesthetic, Denotation, etc. Of course the PDFs are out there and we can use them if we want, but I’m curious what feedback you got, how they worked or didn’t, and what led to them not being included?

A few questions:

A few questions:

A few questions:

1) Apparatus’ Within Cyberbrain – does that only trigger when the PC is asking the MC questions, or does that also trigger when the MC has to ask the PC questions, aka through Rise?

2) With Improvements, you can only take as much Improvements from a given category as there are tickboxes, right? So Apparatus can only unlock a new playbook move twice?

3) When picking moves from other playbooks, you can’t choose playbooks that rely on the playbook’s signature thing, right? A Dying can’t get Attached’s It Speaks, because the Dying doesn’t have an Object, correct?

4) Can you take moves without checkmarks next to them from other playbooks? Say, can an Apparatus take Honed’s Potential?

5) The Dying’s special – does having hold make your Symptoms not progress, or can the hold only be spent to prevent the Trigger move from happening after using The Gift, or both?

6) Catabolist’s Junkware move creates cybernetic implant as an optional thing to choose. Does that mean if the roll fails or it’s a weak hit, the cybernetic is still incorporated even though it doesn’t get a tag, or what happens? Say, when you try replacing your arm with some cybernetic with Junkware, you roll a 7, can you choose not to use that cybernetic, are you forced to choose the first option on Junkware, or can you try to mitigate bad things by choosing not to get negative tags but still replacing your arm with cybernetic that has no positive tags and so on?

7) If you want to take a cybernetic weapon during character creation, do you need to spend your initial tags for range, etc? We have a character that wanted to get a built-in laser, but the only place that would fit something with Far, +Harm would be their eyeball…

8) Do cybernetic weapons, like Apparatus’ Gear get any default Harm, or do they have to take Harm as a tag in order to do anything?

9) If a Catabolist wants to expand their Junkware Cybernetics, they have to spend one Tag of the new Cybernetic to be Integrated, correct? Otherwise they would be replacing the old part with a new part?
