Loto is a Beacon.

Loto is a Beacon.

Loto is a Beacon. He’s from Hawaii and is obsessed with supers and is looking for a date for Prom. His player has asked me for a list of all the other students at Margaret M MacIntyre Academy whose powers are public knowledge because he’d want to go with a girl who has super-powers.

Help me come up with a list of potential dates with varying degrees of abilities ranging from awesome to ridiculous.

– Aisha has conduction: she can excite the molecules of any conductive material to heat them up, which lets her do things like operating a hot-plate without plugging it in.

– Sierra can transform her body but only into things she’s eaten. So if she had bacon for breakfast, she can turn into a pig. She’s way more aware than the average person how much bug parts are in processed foods.

– Caylee is cocoa-kinetic. She can manipulate chocolate with the power of her mind.

– Jaylen is a dream walker. She is able to enter people’s dreams and sometimes control what they dream about.

– Giovanna can talk to animals. All animals love her. It’s annoying and disruptive. She’s learned that mostly what animals say is “I’m SO SEXY!”

– Danica has power over smoke. She can shape smoke into nearly solid objects that she can manipulate.

“I mean, we were supposed to go on a date, and then the time travel stuff got in the way, and now suddenly it’s dance time and we’ve only had time to text to each other and he’s buying me a dress, and I don’t know what that means to him. Or to me!”

And congratulations to Doyce Testerman for keeping this crew of lunatics together for a year of this game. 🙂

Does it work for the Doomed play book to have your room and your nemesis be the same, or does it cause problems?

It’s been awhile, but here is the fourth episode of the Green Hill Gamer Guild Podcast. Joshua is joined by Kollin, Mel, Adam, and Chris as they play Masks: A New Generation, the popular tabletop role-playing game by Magpie Games.

This issue continues the ongoing tale of the Super Punks as they navigate a dark future where Eagle, Hawk’s mentor, has seemingly gone crazy with power! Will they be able to figure out what happened and return to their own time? Join us and find out!

Chris made the group some amazing vegan lasagna for this session, so there may be a few sounds of plates and utensils that couldn’t be removed.

Special Note: This episode is marked as Mature due to some F-bombs getting dropped. We hope you can forgive our use of foul language for this episode.

The Super Punks are:

The Protege Hawk, real name Marshal, played by Kollin.

The Beacon Jax, real name Jasper, played by Mel.

The Innocent Wheels, real name Russ, played by Adam.

The Delinquent Deke, real name Memo, played by Chris.

Spent the last few days on a trip with many friends. Ran some Masks.

One of the characters (with a high Savior) used Defend every time someone else was going to take damage. He could move at the speed of light, so as long as he was in the area it was feasible. My question here is: What can you defend against? If I am trading blows as a result of directly engaging a threat can you defend me? If the GM does a Hard move as a result of me failing, can you defend me against that?

Running (and playing) Masks at Gen Con was a blast! Some highlights:

*Brendan Conway is delightful in person, and listened appreciatively to us telling him about our home campaign (particularly the Time Sloth).

*In a session I GM’d, the Delinquent pretended he was too cool to use the silly name the others had come up for the their team, the Galactic Acrobatic Ranch-hands (GAR). At the very end of the session, in a gesture of good will, he pulled back his sleeve and showed the Legacy the GAR tattoo he’d gotten.

*In a session I played, I got to try out the Star playbook with Sam Seraph, a streaming sensation with six unearthly purple wings. Sam was (briefly) arrested by AEGIS at the conclusion of the mission, and was gagged for mouthing off. This radicalized him against AEGIS, so in my end-of-session scene I narrated Sam addressing his audience about the need to overthrow AEGIS’s fascist regime, and hawking half-face masks styled after his gag and branded with his purple wing insignia.

*In another session I GM’d, the Transformed rolled a miss on Pierce the Mask while trying to literally break a villain’s mask. I said, “Yes, you break open the mask, but what you see is someone gaunt and pale like you, clearly someone who underwent the same transformation. He fixes you with a look of deep betrayal. Take a powerful blow.” It was awesome.
